  • Instrument Cluster leds

I am trying to install rear fog lights but have noticed that alkthough there is a light icon symbol on the facia, there is no actual led on the electronic board underneath the instrument cluster facia for the lights.

Does anyone know if an led can be installed onto the board as a retro fit by an electronics person or someone else.

    Urgent help and advice needed.

    Cheers,

    couldn't see why not.
the circuitry is there, just not the LED.

      Yeah....

I went to a local electronic shop who told me that the leds can be purchased but normally in quantities of 100 on rolls and that they are normally installed by robots using steam to connect them and that they are very susceptable to heat so soldering irons tend to fry the led.

Not sure if this is a realistic option, as even if I manage to sodler in new led after buying one somewhere, not sure in there is even a wire on the wiring harness that would links to a pin in the wiring block that connects to the led - lots of work and headache.

I think I may have to simply install a fog light switch with an indicator built in it. So if anyone knows of a specfic part number for a fog light switch nof this type, this would be helpful.

        Hi GB
I used a Narva 63027BL rear fog light switch in mine. They're a reasonable fit in the prado switch panel.

Adrian, I believe GB is talking about installing additional lights into the instrument console behind the steering wheel

Just to make it clear what I am doing:

Trying to install rear fog lamps in the bumper as part of a conversion to make my Prado UK compliant.

After fitting lamps into bumper and connecting into existing factory wiring harness behind bumper, I cant find where to connect the actual internal switch, which is still presenting me with a problem. If I cant resolve this I will probably have to get an auto electrician to re-wire the lamps from scratch.

I also having stripped out the instrument cluster to put in a new facia to show both mph and km/h , I noticed that although there is a symbol on the facia for a rear fog light which would normally lighgt up when switched on, there is no actual led in the space behind the symbol. It would appear that Toyota have not put a led into the circuit board or an associated resistor on the back of the circuit board.

I have now sourced an electronics guy who can install new led for about $6.00. So hopefully if I can get the lamps to work properly, the dashboard symbol will light up as intended.

I have taken lots of photos of this whole exercise so hopefully from my experience will be able to assist and future members. Not sure how to upload photos onto the forum though.

That said any help or comments gladly welcomed.

On mine the wiring for the non existent fog lamps terminated at the connector behind the L/H kick panel, from memory it was blue/white. There was no other associated loom for that circuit, or the led's in the cluster.

Anyone know if the green retainers that the speedo and rev counter pointers click onto can be removed?

The black boxes are the rear view of the retainers on the circuit board.

                  Urgent help or advice appreciated.

                      Re: Instrument Cluster leds

the last time i played with the pointer on a instrument cluster (speedo cable version) it needed time spent
                      resetting correct position for pointers.
so can't fully answwr it for this model
