Positive and negative wires to the battery
The third wire is spliced into into the electronic throttle wire on the car this is why the DP chip will not work when the cruise control is on as it needs to know the throttle position and it cannot determine this with CC as the computer takes over
Chester, If I may, a slight amendment to your assessment above. The installation instructions tell you to connect the grey wire from the chip into Plug 3, pin 28. This is a signal from the accelerator pedal position, not from the throttle valve position. Of course when you engage your cruise control and lift your foot off the accelerator pedal, it returns a zero signal to pin 28, which in my Prado is about 0.8 volts. I don't know how to achieve this, but we need to connect the grey wire into a signal from the throttle valve position, not the accelerator pedal position.

If you can find out before I do, please let me know.

If I understand what you are saying is you want to wire the chip to the throttle valve sensor? The throttle valve "sensor" is a stepper motor that stays fully open most of the time and only closes under deceleration and shut down of the engine. It doesn't open progressively and in close unison with the position of the accelerator as petrol engines do with fly by wire.
You need to wire the pedal position sense wire (the grey one?) of the chip to the output from the accelerator position sensor (on 120's that's the white/blue one - not sure on a 90).

Thanks Adrian. Yesterday I spoke to the technician at DP Chip and his reply was most enlightening. The DP 34 works on two parameters, the main one is by measuring the load, at the injector pump (spill valve connection, red wire on the 90 series and red/yellow on the 120) and adjusting the volume and timing of injection according to need.

The second parameter (less important) is the throttle (accelerator pedal position) this input only influences the chip when the accelerator is pressed and the degree of influence depends on the amount of pedal movement. When operating in cruise control mode of course the pedal is released, hence no signal, however the chip is working completely now on the load signal from the injector.

If you are towing a caravan up a long hill and there doesn't seem to be quite enough "juice" a touch of the accelerator pedal will bring the secondary input into play. I don't know If I'm completely satisfied with this explanation, it just seems to leave a little bit to be desired, but I haven't towed a caravan up a long hill with the chip installed yet, in fact I will fit it by Friday, then will have a much better indication.

I did find the people at DP Chip most helpful and co-operative.

        Bruce.

The DP chip only reads the voltage from the accelerator pedal, so it will not have any throttle readings whilst using cruise control, I help the cruise by giving throttle on hills.

I have a set of instructions here if you need them i can copy and post or scan them and email them to you just let me know whats easier you will not be disappointed witht the change though i have noticed my fuel consumption is up a bit i have lost about 100ks per tank. But the power more than makes up for that Let me know if you need it but i agree with schaffer if its not configured to the prado it could end up messy but happy to give you the instructions i just take no responsability.

            Craig
Can I please get a copy of those instructions too, I'm taking my Dp chip out of my surf and putting into my prado, but I'll need to get it re flashed to suit the prado engine parameters.

            Thank you [email protected]
