    Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Thanks for the heads up 404pug
I will make sure the lights are all go and I am holding off fitting TP's front recovery points until after the recall work.
Looking forward to getting the bar realigned though.

      Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Thanks for the update ! Will have to book my 120 in.

The bar has had some serious movement in it on rough tracks from day one

It may also be a good idea for them to check the aerial mount on the bar also.

Mine broke off crossing the Simpson-leaving the UHF aerial hanging on by the coax under the car

Saved again by the good old duct tape.

        Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Has anyone who has had the recall done noticed the bar is noisier post the new mounts?

I have been told that the reason why mine is making a rattle noise is due to the new mounts allowing extra play...... but me thinks the bar isn't in alignment.

          Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

I have only driven mine 5 km since it was done today and there are no ratlles and it appears to move LESS. These mounts are seriously heavier gear than the originals. Neil

            Sweet - thanks!

I had a good look at the front right overnight - they replaced the wheel liner (plastic guard thing) and it looks like it overhangs the side of the bar by about 2cm if I pull it out from the front of the bar.

So - based on some other threads might take it off and go for a run and see if I still hear the noise - the sound makes me think 'metal on metal' but its worth a shot!

              Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

mines in getting this FIX today.
they just called, saying the bolts that secure the winch are seized and "what do you want us to do".
go ahead with the FIX and chance breaking the winch mounts, or not doing the job.
they have me over a barrel at the moment.
from that point on any method or breakage is on me (smart buggers).
i need to have the brackets replaced, so you have to try and remove it.
my thoughts/options were; hope the bolts shear, air chisel the bolt heads off, drill the bolts (which they wont do).
will find out later today if the winch comes home in the back or on the bar.
annoyed is one words for it.
toyota require the new mounts and it cost me (maybe) a winch. not happy at the moment

                Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

mine's getting done tomorrow, by the sounds of things it's not looking good. I left them with 1.5m antena cable to play with so hopefully when they take the bar of that will be enough, time to pray and hope me thinks

got the prado back last night. was getting dark, so decided to leave it and check it out today.
no damage to winch but due to the new components, my wiring was secured differently.
so 2 and bit hours resecuring cables and removing each bolt and applying loctite later, and it is ready to go.
the best part is they have re-aligned the bar, and i don't have bent support bars.
i left my spotties and both aerials on, the they had no issues with working around these.
the new parts are a better design, but i think the winch cradle is of a thinner guage when compared to the old one.
1 thing i was disappointed with was the 8 bolts that secure the bar to the bracket (behind the black bumpers pads),
were not fitted with spring washers or ny-lock type nuts. so these got plenty of loctite to ensure it works/holds.
all up, very happy with the outcome (alignment and bracket design and no breakage).

                    Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Mine might have to be done tomorrow as they've ordered the Hilux part

One thing i hate is those bloody salesmen trying to sell me bullshit. He rang me to say that since my vehicle is modified they will need a special part? I rang the mechanic and found out the thruth. Where is the honesty these days?

                      Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Why we hate dealer service..... on closely inspecting mine, the new mounts are missing 2 bolts, one on each side onto the chassis AND they claimed that when i gave it to them the fog lights and parking lights didn't work and they put this onthe invoice BUT they had disconnected the wiring to the parkers in the bull bar and reconnected the wires incorrectly causing a dead short. I couldn't find it so I took it to the local auto electrician who found the incorrect wiring. There is no way I will let those useless b......s touch my car again. The wiring is fixed and I will jiggle the bar around to get the 2 critical missing bolts in myself less they stuff something else up. Thank heavens for good tradies outside the dealers! Neil

                        Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Well my letter arrived last night telling me about the recall  . The local dealer didn't know anything about it when I mentioned it to them two weeks ago. I will be taking photo's of how the bar is mounted now and when I get it back to make sure everything is correct.
I am worried about my UHF cable but have plenty of play with it so will give them as much as I can and make them aware of the cable. The driving lights just disconnect behind the grill so that should not be an issue but not sure what to do about recovery points. Might just be easier to take them off my self.

                          Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

got mine done on tuesday, dropped the car off 9am and went back at 4pm to pick up the car and it wasnt ready, they forgot to order the winch cradle, even though i told them 2 weeks before when i booked it in, but anyway they gave me a car to take home and to drive to work the next day, went back following day job was completed a1, all bolts in and tight, bullbar aligned, winch worked, spotties work and uhf still works, no complaints from me about job satisfaction here, only people that lost out was the dealership, took 12hours instead of the 3.5 that toyota reckon, and yes mine was the first car that had done. hope everyone has a smooth run like me. cheers samo

Just a thought, might pay to have the service rep write down that everything is working when you drop it off etc, and check it, then check again before accepting it back.

Had mine booked in today for 150K service. Apparently the bullbar mounts are giving them grief    Wouldn't explain but wanted the car till tomorrow. Will be interesting to find out why and what the matter was. Have UHF wiring and driving lights running through also. Tomorrow, all will be revealed......

                                Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Hi All and just had mine done, after seeing that bullbar had dropped on one side(left) I took into Toyota for service and bullbar re-fit,was told all was done ,as was heading to fraser in two weeks(mid Oct) one week from trip i head squeeking noise from front right and took back in,was told that a bolt was left out of air con condencer?? and was fixed(was not happy)
Get to Queensland and noise had returned, when back,I took back to Toyota and they told me that there is a recall on the Bracket,So dropped off this Monday (8th) and did not get back till Wednesday?? not happy again!! job only booked out as 7hrs??
Now here comes the best thing, when I picked up my car, they gave me my two recovery plates that i had put on(Outback Ideas)when asked why, they said that Toyoto will not put on after market parts?????? have pushed the issure with manager and he now said that Toyoto will need to see enginerring cert for bolts before they come to the party and re install ????
Am now intouch with Outback ideas...

I was told that the re-call was for ALL Sovereigh BullBar brackets as the welds are cracking !!!! Questioned Toyota
if my noise problem was a crack and I bet you all know what they said LOL  I asked to look at my old bracket and was told that it was THROWN out hahahahah...

Will keep you informed how I go and would like to hear if others out there are or having same problems with Toyota..
                                cheers Tasdev....Brian
we are all here for a good time, not a long time,so enjoy it while you can..
