Mine's back and so far so good. Looks like they've done a decent job, mind you I had 1.5m "spare" uhf cable but according to the mechanic who did the job, 0.5m is enough to take the bar off. Definitely make sure they know about your recovery points/driving lights/uhf etc. if i didn't say anything about the uhf "spare" length he would have pull my dashboard apart and disconnected it from the radio

        Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Had mine done today and all looks good so far. It might be just me, but it seems a bit strange that they replace the bullbar brackets on a recall of my 6 year old Prado, and dont want to know about the cracked dashboard, even though they said the vehicle was unroadworthy and not recommended to be driven with the cracks.
Toyota works in some strange ways.
I also overheard a person in the service dept talking on the phone telling somebody that they were booked out till mid January with recall repairs. Too bad if you wanted an urgent repair done.

Got mine back with new brackets etc, and was told that 3 of the brackets had come adrift!!! No wonder they recalled them. Pearlie is much quieter now and the bullbar sits where it should. Told me to come back in a month to see if all is still as it now should be.. Thanks to Central Highland Toyota for good service.
You're here for a good time, not a long time... Love my Prado...

HI Foxclan That crack you have in your photo is poor QA at point of manufacture why it cracked was the pick up in the corner was missed .The weld has washed out around the corner leaving no strength, probably robot who knows .That sort of thing is very high on a inspectors check list usually.TINKERA.

                    Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Our letter came today! "... we kindly request that you contact your Toyota Dealer and schedule an appointment to have the bull bar mounting brackets replaced. ...rectification is approximately 2.5 hours .."

When I phoned the dealer, the receptionist initially suggested that the mountings just needed "inspection". When I read the above, she was quick to acknowledge her mistake and its booked for 2 December.

Just in case anyone else bought their 120 series 2nd hand (as we did), you may need to contact Toyota if you have not received the letter. We bought ours privately but immediately advised Toyota ... hence the letter.

                    Cheers

                              Hi Don

I take it your not happy with the gap?? There is supposed to be a 15+-2mm gap. This is required as the bullbar is hard mounted to the chassis, but the body has rubber mounts, so it moves with respect to the bullbar, without this clearance the body would hit the bullbar doing damage.

don1, that does look dodgy. While I had issues with the installation of mine, as outlined above, the actual alignment of the bar is good. The spacings you have shown in your photo are even, but a lot larger than mine . I can just fit a little finger into the gap [about 15mm]. This may change when I put in the 2 bolts to the chassis that the idiots left out! To close those gaps a little you need to loosen the multiple nuts that hold the mounts to the bull bar, not the few nuts that hold the mount to the chassis. I would loosen only one side at a time and maybe use a jack and a piece of wood to lift the bar on that side, tighten, and then do the other side. It may take several goes to get it right. Neil
