    Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

They do fit [ I have the "violet" ones from on here] but the various spacers need to go in different places to make the recovery hooks sit nicely.Neil

      Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

We have a Oct 2008 GXL Prado so emailed Toyota to see if our vehicle was affected by this recall:

"Thank you for your recent email received by the Toyota Customer Experience Centre.

I have searched your vehicle details in our system and can confirm there is an outstanding recall on your vehicle. I noticed there was also an old address in the system, so if you have relocated it is possible notification was not received.

Toyota Motor Corporation Australia suggests you contact your local Toyota Service Centre to arrange a convenient time to take advantage of their expertise. The sooner the arrangements are made the sooner your vehicle will be diagnosed."

Thanks to this thread bringing this issue to my attention. 8)

          Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

          Hi Guys,

Had our bar replaced under insurance today...
Apart from having a nicer finish IMO, the mounts definitely are stronger looking and I can vouch that the bar is not as shaky as the old one.
I was worried the bar was going to be changed onto the existing mounts but the boys at the place where it was fitted advised that the bar came with clear instructions to change the mounts as they came with it.

          Cheers and Beers

              Re: Sovereign Bar Mount Recall?

Thanks fellow Pradopointers for the alert about the bullbar mounts.
I had mine changed over last week and the dealer (Scifleet Taringa) did a great job. (And I should say 'As Usual' as they've been 100% and very professional with everything I've raised with them - reflash, new engine mounts, new injectors as well).
I still haven't received the recall letter from Toyota, though. Just rang the dealership and they booked it in.
There does seem to be less vibration. The passenger side previously had quite a bit of play. Possibly as a result of the CB aerial doing a constant dance over the millions of corrugations when we went up to the Cape two years ago.

                Hello Viewers
We had the mounts replaced over two days last week.
Day one was replacement, Day two was alignment.
I am sure the Dealer Principle would not be happy, as Toyota allow three hours for this job to be completed and Therefore the maximum that can be charged out is three hours.
Whackers left no clearance on the flares (GXL model)
I would suggest checking the nuts and bolt for tightness after this work has been completed as I found a couple that where lose.
Not angry, as they are only human at ######### Toyota, and with that many bolts. But I do tend to check any work that someone else is doing on the Prado.
                Regards Troy

Well the Prado has been dropped off at Toyota for the recall :? .
Spent the weekend removing recovery points, undoing UHF cable and giving them as much freeplay as possible. Checked all the lights were working. Printed out the fitting instructions and left it open on the page where it states the bar to body clearances.
Now just sitting here at work with fingers crossed that they get it right .

Being a recall, they can't charge you anything though?

Its not officially a recall, just a customer service thing, so not sure what the rules are.
I bet there were some promises made with the government body that manages recalls, to keep it out of the official recall stats.

Well just had a phone call from my Toyota and thought they were going to say "come and pick it up" but NO!!! "Sorry sir but there has been a problem with your Prado, we have scratched the left hand flare when the bar slipped".
NOT HAPPY JAN!
I went and had a look at it and I would say a new flare will have to go on. Toyota are trying to find a loan car for me, really the wife as it is her car during the week. Told them it has to be able to have the two car seats in the back and also be able to carry everythjing else she carries about during the week.
I go back at 4pm so will be interesting to see what I get to drive home in.

Exactly the reason I canned the job on my prado.

I am preparing an ARB steel bar to go on it soon, instead of the alloy one.

Having trawled the post it looks like I'm not alone. Toyota had my 03 GXL for two days and still didn't get the alignment right. I had a good clearance on each side but now its tight up to the body.

Can anyone tell me how to get the adjustment in it to drop it or send me the fitting instructions to highlight and give to the service team?
I'd rather not let the apprentice have another go at it since the closest he seems to have been to one before now is walking by the showroom with his eyes closed.

                            cheers

The alignment was rubish on mine after the recall job was done. I took it back for a second try. The "mechanic" that usually does them told me there are not enought shims in the recall bracket kit as it comes from Toyota. However the hilux kit comes with too many shims so he saves them and puts them in prado jobs. After the second attempt mine seems to be aligned about the same as before.
I don't know if that sounds reasonalble?

                                Hi All,
It only relates to the factory alloy bar.
I have a 2003 120 Prado with the factory fitted alloy bull bar. Received a recall letter from Toyota.
They have replaced all the mounting brackets with much bigger and heavier ones.
Only problem I now have is that the new brackets are now bolted to the chassis where I was about
to fit 2 rated recovery points.
Does any one have any other solution for fitting recovery points?????
