  • rusty water stains on body

more so, i have an ARB roof rack, and have the Kaymar Jack and Shovel holder on the side. as it rains a lot here, and the prado normally gets a hose down once a week, the hi-lift jack drips rusty waster down the rear quarter panel and the rear side window.

does anyone else have this issue?

my prado is white, so it becomes more obvious when it dries and stains.

i have tried numerous sprays, etc on the hi-lift, but sooner or later, it drips rusty water. i have also tried the neoprene boot, and also a canvas bag, but for some reason, these boots/covers still fill with water/mud, and eventually drip from the drain eyelets.

i have the Hi Lift brand hi lift jack from ARB.

short of removing the hi-lift and just fitting it for every trip, would anyone suggest anything otherwise. its a bit of a pain lifting it up and down for every trip, as its locked and tied down tight so it doesn't rattle on the mounts.

the rusty water stains do polish out, and eventually i can see that quarter panel being like new compared to the rest of the prado without any polish.

cheers for any help and suggestions.

I can't think of any way you'd stop the rusty water from wanting to drip down eventually unless you could had a perfectly sealed bag. .
Considering Hi Lifts are normally used only infrequently, personally I'd try this : get some thick plastic, even cut up a cheap tarp or something, and wrap the hi-lift with it then use gaffa tape to tape up the joins well. ( the proper waterproof cloth gaffa tape, not duct tape.) If the mount is one that uses bolts rather than clamps, then cut some holes for the mounting bolts and seals the seams of those with tape too. So you have nice totally sealed parcel. If you ever need to use the jack, you can re-wrap it and seal it up with a fresh tape. Can't hurt to try anyways.

I used to carry a hi lift on the roof rack - ditched it a few years ago and haven't missed it. I thought it was a bit heavy for the roof of a Prado anyways. I'll only take the handwinch and MaxTrax if going bush now.
    Cheers, Wayne

I don't know much about hi-lifts, or have ever actually used one! how would painting it in a rubberised 2 component coating, similar to what used on shipping containers, ships ect?
