  • DIY Fridge slide and false floor for 120

Made up a fridge slide for my engel and a false floor out of formply to fix slide to.

Made slide from stainless and the ply floor is held in place by clips that hold onto the existing tie down points that protrude throughs holes in base board. second shelf is held in place by 3rd row mounts, to remove whole setup is only undoing the 4 clips and lifting floor and slide out as one unit.

Nice one Sparksy. Like the bearings. What do you think safe weight limit is? Cheers.

It has no problem holding the weight of a full 29 litre engel. Ive had my full weight ( 90kg) on the end of slide extended with no problems.
The "weak" point would be the clips that fit under the original tie downs in the floor but I think that 2mm stainless wouldnt bend that easily.
I used those TEE nuts from underneath to bolt down both the slide and the clips 10mm for slide and 8mm for clips.
If you need any more detail just ask.

Sparksy did you buy or make the clips the hook under the tie down points. If you did buy them would you mind letting me know where from I can't quite work it out from the pics. Thanks.

              Thanks guys.
yeh I find the tig the best. I work with S/S so easy to knock things up in stainless rather than mild steel and then paint. Ive got a tig and mig set up at home.
The clips I bent up myself .
Just a bit of 2mm sheet . Ill take another shot when I get home.

Clips are 30mm long and the hole is 8mm.

Well its taken a while to finally finish the back of the prado. Decision has been made to keep it as only done 100K and resale value means might as well keep it a bit longer until toyota make a new 4wd that I like.
Covered the floor section with carpet and cut out a section where the right hand rear seat locks down so if need be it can put back.
Welded sections of angle onto side of fridge slide so two side sections of covered 12mm ply can be slid into and held in by toggle clips. The side sections have a aluminum frame at rear to brace them.
To stop stuff falling on top of the fridge I cut down a Subaru cargo barrier and fitted using 4 brackets I made to the top of the side sections.
With the sides fitted I then made another removable floor section to fit on RHS and clips into the seat clamp.

More shots of the rear. Next step is to remove the second row of seats and fit in the false floor sections Ive made. idea is to fit second fridge behind passenger seat and have a flat section replacing the 2/3 seat behind drivers seat for extra storage. The frames bolt down using original seat mounts and bolts.

Found some other shots from when I made the slide which may be of use to someone.

                        nice job
I like your idea for the power leads, I might copy that of you, as my lead has a couple of repairs in it from getting caught

Yes I know it's nice making things yourself..but.... I've got one in my shed which I've never used. Now it's there as a possibility/scenario for the future.. Great pics, many thanks.

I know you can buy things like the rack and a fridge slide and if you calculate the time put into doing it yourself it doesnt normally make sense but then if I was to buy something like that I probably wouldnt be happy with it and I enjoy making things. A lot of other things Ive knocked up for my prado over the years you just cant buy. Beside then what would I do with all the gear in the shed if I didnt make things. The slide, floor and other parts all up owe me about $150.

The cable track I got from RS components years ago for a project I was working on but never used it. Cost about $50 but Ebay has them cheaper than that.

The frames for the second row. Bit wet over here today. idea is to mount compressor under front section of larger frame ( that gets it out of the rear ) and mount a Optima d34 in parallel with existing aux battery in front of smaller frame on floor behind passengers seat.

Have now replaced the small shelf unit in rear with a single drawer unit. Was going to go with the twin drawer unit but it meant the fridge would be too high.
Also while I was on a roll tidied up the electrics for the roof mounted solar and fitted the compressor under the fridge mount which replaces the second row small seat. Made the fridge mount so it holds a 35L waeco on the upper level and the space under is just high enough and large enough to fit 2 cartons.
