  • Front mounting an intercooler on a Prado 120

Hello everybody, and I apologise in advance if this question has already been answered elsewhere. I have searched the forums, and found many references to, but no actual details, on mounting the intercooler at the front of a 120 series Prado.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Which is better, a bonnet scoop, or shifting the intercooler? It would seem that the bonnet scoop is easier.

The list's of mods so far for my 2007 euro 4 spec D4D: Racor ccv4500 crankcase ventilation filter, Racor 230r30 primary filter, intercooler fan, and blocking off the EGR at the block, and replumbing the circuit back into the airbox (thanks xpro).

In two weeks I'm off to have the injectors replaced for the second time (thanks Toyota), all this and only 90k on the clock!!!! Toyota toyota what have you done?

As far as know only one person on the forum has shifted the intercooler, the thread on that is here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...120-Series-D4D

As too which is better, shifting the intercooler or bonnet scoop, well that might depend on what you are looking to acheive. If its for power and economy then my experience with the bonnet scoop is that it will make little difference to either, I think Matt has posted some dyno figures for his intercooler shift.

If you are looking to cure the injector issue with either of these mods, well some will tell you they help but personally I have not seen any evidence to suggest either will make a difference. Certainly Matts intercooler swap is such a recent change that I doubt you could draw anything conclusive from that.

    Cheers Andrew

Thank you Andrew. I am indeed, looking for a cure to the injector problem, and anything else is a bonus. It would be great if Toyota could come up with a cure for all of us who have these dodgy injectors sitting under our intercoolers. Better still, if they issued a world wide recall. Would certainly go a long way to restoring their reputation for building some of the best 4x4's around.

      Cheers Shane.

Given the price of parts from various sources not Toyota i think the best solution is to fit new injectors, seals etc. About $3k. Clean the sump pickup. Clean the digestive tract too. Happy engine for 150,000 km or so. Change fuel filters every 20k or fit a pre filter and / or blow by catch can (FWIW I am 50/50 on these).

Just bare in mind that when you move an intercooler to a front mount from a previous top mount you will increase the lag.
