  • Rear Shelf-alternative to Drawers

This is something I made as an alternative to tailored Drawers. It may look a bit rough and basic but has done the Simo and Anne Beadell highway.
For me the main advantages are:
    1. easy removal when not touring (use rear seats)
    2. low capital outlay
    3. uses a full length cargo barrier (so barrier can be used independently of Rear Shelf)
    4. low weight
    5. enables every square mm of boot space to be used

This is the second one I have made. The first was a bit low for the fridge and the steel was not quite thick enough.
The fridge slide is bolted through the floor and can also be easily removed.
Hope this is of interest to someone and gets them inspired to have a go at making something.

bigpete...thanks for sharing. A few of have the cargo lifestyle rack:

    http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...lifestyle+rack.

Works for me as you can take it out in... 10 seconds. One downside is you cannot use a fridge slide but have to tie the fridge to the rack making it very high, esp for short people so a plastic flip out stand has to accompany us in the car.

Yours is a great idea though for the majority of people where drawers are just too impractical. Thx 4 sharing.
    Cheers

I have a fridge slide mounted to my lifestyle rack. I just run two upport legs under the frame to keep it ridged enough otherwise it bounces to much. Yes iut does make it quite high but being quite tall myself it is not an issue.

Do they or someone similar make something for the 90 series? I was going to make my own but it's a bit of mucking around and if these can be had for a reasonable price, I much rather go this route.

I use the back seat lifestyle rack fridge mount for my 40L Waeco. Simply remove the single (passenger side) second row seat and it bolts straight in.

          Cheers

I don't think so. Here is an already 'homemade' one for sale for a 90 series. Maybe freight could be the killer though?? Looks the go!
