    Re: D.I.Y camp/rear door table

I place the child locks on my rear door because if someone tries to break in via smashing the glass  , then they cannot open the door to help themselfs to whats in the back. Also by not being able to open the back door the can not get to the drawers and open them , so a second security measure .
Made a rear door table today thanks for the info from this thread made it very easy to put together. Just one thing found out that Bunnings and whitforts do not carry the spray adhesive, this was found at Auto one motor shop.

Bunnings do have spray/contact adhesive - try the paint department. They might just have a different brand.

Something like Selleys Kwik or Gel Grip would do the job.

Fitted a Trek table today now I want to fit a light above. What's the trick to removing the plastic trim at the top of the door?

It just pulls off. Be mndful that the sides are locked in to the top by a tab so pull one side off first, and be gentle.

            Hi,

Can the door plastic be drilled safely ?
Are such screws enough for the two hinge (which will support some weight) ?

            Regards,
            Datawolf (from France)

                Hi Datawolf,

When I put mine in I cut some short lengths of 25mm wide aluminium and made sure that the hinge screws went into that behind the plastic panel, helps spread the weight I hope.

                Cheers,

                Dave

Oh, yes, I understand, now.
Is the door panel easy to dismount ? Any trick ?

                    Re: D.I.Y camp/rear door table

No trick to it, just ease out around the edge of the plastic with a slim piece of wood or whatever, you'll feel the plastic lugs let go one at a time. There are also three screws to undo, one lot behind the toolkit recess and the other behind the handle.

                    Cheers,

                    Dave

Great reading on this thread, it's been going a fair time, so i'm interested in how durable everones individual setups have been. ie any wear and tear or what would you do differently?
                          Cheers,

would it be worthwhile to put a light at the bottom of the window rather than the top so it throws more light onto the table, less light in your eyes, less reflection [if any] from the glass, and possibly easier to run cable there than up side channel? if not any reason why it would be worse to have it down lower than up the top, thanks.

                              Hi All

Looking at making one of these tables up but not keen on screwing the hinges into the plastic of the back door, can anyone suggest how the table could work without screwing into the plastic???

                              Cheers
