They need gussets on the foot plates from the RHS to the plate, or they will just flex at that point, and still hit the car.

We stikaflex the alloy plates on over the RHS we use as the main body, to save threads being tapped into the area that is the air storage. This also stops them from making any noise, which the alloy can do if not glued on.

And yes, been including air fittings since 2002, for air storage on the slidersteps.

                  Hi Guys

Just wondering what size steel and wall thickness everyone has used on their steps. TIA.

We use 5mm RH and 3.3mm wall pipe, we have found 3mm to be to thin even when gussetted, for lifting the car from the slidersteps.

do you make them completely in-house, or do you have them/part made elsewhere.

agree 3mm RHS is too thin

We dont have a powdercoating facility, so some parts are outsourced, assembly is done on some models here [more popular] and others we use a guy who contracts to us for welding, and final assembly happens here on all of them.

                          • Hi all, I built a set for my GX and took apart the factory running boards reusing the plastic and electrical in the sliders. They rely on flexing up to the body seam under load and attach using existing holes in the frame.

                            • I'm looking at dusting off the welder and having a go at some sliders myself. One quick question (for now) - to get the angled end like Chippy has here:

Do you cut almost through the tube, cut a notch then bend the bottom up and weld the sides back together again? As you can probably guess, fabrication isn't my strong point

                              • Hi all, been toying with the idea of making my own sliders and an excuse to do some more welding. So i got some steel and made a start on the sliders. As i don't have a pipe bender and going to the expense of getting them bent up would defeat the purpose of making them i scored some pipe bends from a mate who had excess he didn't need. I got the ideas from this thread on what to use and a bit of a search, on the net and found an old thread (thanks AJ120) that had the steel dimensions. So here's the outcome so far:
