Marc,
You could also fit Toughdog Hilux front struts, but the spring seat is fitted 15-20mm higher on the Hilux strut, which would give you a ride height of about 820-830mm and all the wheel alignment issues that are associated with that height.

Anyone got Kings KTFR-101HD springs fitted?

Marc,
I suspect the Ironman spacer actually fits between a sliding spring seat and a fixed collar on the Ironman strut. The Ultimate Suspension use a similar system to adjust the spring seat height on their struts. I found this picture with a Google image search:
A 5mm strut spacer will give about 10mm lift, but will also increase the total downward suspension travel (droop) to about 900mm by increasing the strut length of the TD strut to 569mm. With this sort of travel you may need to fit a diff drop to stop the CV from binding and the upper control arm will probably contact the spring at full travel.Originally posted by amts View PostHow about a strut spacer?

Thansk Peter.
I actually spoke to the Dobinson guys on Friday and they recommended C59-302 but of course, thats just a semi calculated guess and no responsibility accepted if it doesnt work out
Shame I cant just use a spring spacer/packer!
I also enquired about the Ironman trim packers but they are adamant that they will ONLY work with Ironman struts and nothing else.
The 120 version trim packer are metal packers but no one can tell me what they look like or why they dont fit other brands.

I cannot take any responsibility for any (mis)calculations that I make, especially since Craig's results did surprise me also. However, IMHO if you have a ride height of 790mm with a 370mm @ 800lb/in spring then my calculations tell me that a longer spring with a free height of 375-380mm @ 800lb/in is required for an extra 15mm lift.Originally posted by 1coolbanana View PostAnd how can I get another 15mm out of mine, .....aparently not with the Kings then?
Only Dobinsons/Ridepro and ARB make a longer coil, but at a reduced rate, so probably a free length of about 400mm @ 617lb/in is needed for a ride height of around 805mm. I would talk to Dobinsons about exactly what could be achieved with either their C59-302 (395mm @ 617lb/in) or C59-314 (405mm @ 617lb/in) spring. If you don't like the blue/green colour of the Dobinsons spring, then go for a Ridepro ZC7302 (395mm @ 617lb/in) or ZC7314 (405mm @ 617lb/in) also made by Dobinsons, but painted black.
Dobinsons can be contacted on 07 4927 7444.

Yeah well the people that made the aftermarket joint I bought didn't know it was a problem as they'd never fitted one with a prado with so much flex! Still almost 2" less travel than genuine....that's taking the piss a bit

Thanks for the word of warning Double D... I will quiz my Toyota mechanic a little harder before I commit as I have a mechanic I believe I can rely on...

Just a quick warning about buying a non genuine CV joint.... I did this and learnt the hard way - see my post about this http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...078#post290078Originally posted by Davros View PostBoot kits are typically around $18.00 per side.
Kit includes two boots, 4 clips, and a bit of grease.
Having said that, if your vehicle has travelled over 100,000kms, I would just buy the full shaft assembly's as above.
Also....Cleaning up old CV joints is a messy job.

Well theres something wrong right there!.
The original are supposed to be 370mm and the HD's are supposed to be the same length and they look considrably longer in the pics.
Unless your originals have sagged badly?
Whats the length of your originals then?

Oh, yeah, right, the 101's!
You didnt happen to measure their length (the HD's) while you had them did you???

Marc, sorry to say that I didn't put the H's in. They are standard raised (KTFR-101). Perhaps I should of held onto the HD's and sold them off to the highest bidder? Sounds too me then they must of been an odd pair. Perhaps a trip to the weighbridge to see how much weight you have over the front? I would've thought that HD's with your tough dogs and amts spacers would be a great combo?Originally posted by 1coolbanana View PostCant understand how yours ended up so high and now with the H's, yours is still taller than mine.
Doesnt make sense does it?

Its got me stuffed actually because my TD springs are exactly the same rate and length, I only have a bar and mine sits at 785-790.
I rang Kings today and asked if I could get another 10-15mm out of their HD's and he said no, and he confirmed what Ive got is exactly the same and it will end up no different !!!
Ok, so I havent got different circlip position and I believe that the Billies at the lowest position is the same as what Ive got so that will account for 10mm or so but not 30!
Cant understand how yours ended up so high and now with the H's, yours is still taller than mine.
Doesnt make sense does it?
And how can I get another 15mm out of mine, .....aparently not with the Kings then?
