Wanna but a cheap set of springs

Seems like my springs haven't sprung a leak yet

            Cheers Andrew

Not funny! It'll be funny next week but not right now.

Had to get under the car to remove the airbag before it makes more damage.

Filled in the ditches on the uphill track and laid 8 Maxtraxs down to get out.

Many thanks to a Nissan Pathfinder owner and his mates to stop and hang around to assist.

Now driving on the bump stops.

How's the Airbag Support amts? Did it collapse?
I was considering a beach trip these holidays but now with your patched airbag barely lasting a couple of days, perhaps not...

The airbag support is fine. Spacers were removed as I didn't have the time for the weld fix.

I wouldn't do any 4WDriving with a leaky airbag. The pressure on the tear when the airbag extends causes it to go bang.

Now 100km from Adelaide to bring our other car and trailer to pick up the rest of the clan and luggage. Travelled with minimal weight while on bump stops. RAA premium membership was of not much use.

x2. Guys. I've all the gear to install amts spacers but I'm concerned with bending my mounts viz a viz craigm pics after it's all done. I've a suspension setup the same as marc's but I never retained the airbags hence the reason I bought the spacers. I hate going back on stuff so is it worthwhile just leaving as is or should I just bite the bullet, sell my bags then buy some extended bags from the airbag man? Surely original bags and spacers are the same?? I'd like to do more serious stuff in future but atm it's very limited! I know the cost of above maybe they are worth it??

If it's worthwhile welding the mounts before the spacers I'm happy to pay a PP member to point me in the right direction as I'd like the job all done properly first time! I'm a great believer in an action causes a reaction..I don't want a job causing a big problem and so on and so on... ATM all my bags and mounts are in A1 nick and straight..would like to keep them that way..any advice is greatly appreciated! I can provide pics if folks want!!

The standard high setting is pretty high, higher than a coil lifted vehicle, so why mess with it?
It was reliable before...... I think all you needed to do was trik the sensors with a few washers to get a little more, because thats easy.
Also something small like a split pin to retain the bottom of the bag. Particularly if you put little bit longer shocks.
Shan did this and it was working no probs till the bags got 8 years old, cracked rubber & slow leaks under load.
New bags now and big spacers, fingers crossed I say.

I would have liked to be able to fit 25mm spacers to Shan's and 25mm bump stop spacer.

Also I would recommend anyone with stock air bags replace them with the same after 6-7years.
You will be more reliable for it, and can carry the oldies for spares.
Make sure you have your own SST.

Unfortunately/fortunately I've already messed with the suspension. There are a number of washers under my sensors. I'm happy with the height, I bought the spacers to retain my bags and bring the OEM bags back to original length to avoid new aftermarket one's.

Good advice but I think I'll go with the aftermarket extended airbags not the OEM bags for non lifted Prado's. Really trying to asertain what (if any) impact these spacers may have viz a viz mounts/airbag integrity!

Grande's are for touring anyway..controversial. FWIW IMO serious offroad use has contributed to the deformed mounts (like shown in craigm pics), are there other reasons?? Welding a reinforced bracket could be the way to go.. Many thanks for your feedback.

Thats a bastard way to start New Year AMTS, i've been on them there bumpstops too. I've had your spacers in for a few months now and its all good so far, I was under the drivers side mounting bracket this arvo and there is no sign of any deformation there. I've given it a good run too so i'll be keeping a close eye on it now. Where are you at now with your airbag drama AMTS?
                          Regards, Lenny67.

Seeing as the Toyota airbags are a long way away and the Airbag Man kit is only a bit more after a 10% discount, I've opted to go with that.

Here are pics of the ride home on bump stops and the missing airbag.

And here is the tear in the airbag that I tried to patch up before the trip to Robe.

Close inspection of the both airbags shows cracking in the rubber. So if your Grande is 8 or 9 years old, you might want to have a good look at the rubber and save up for a replacement.

                              Hey guys,

I’m off to look at an ‘06 Grange tonight . .. I’ll be wanting to put at least a 2”lift with 33” muddies.

Is it possible to simply replace the rear airbags with springs? Or is there more to it than that?

No there's more to it than that. You'll need new spring seats manufactured top and bottom and possibly new bump stops.
