I wouldn't agree with you again, about me not having it on my 4wd. I very nearly went Pedders on my first Prado, but eventually went OME instead. I would be far more likely to fit Pedders than a number of other brands that get a good wrap on this forum, including what you are running Hutch.Originally posted by Hutch View PostWell than i will say not the best choice nor the worst. I am sure u wouldn't have it on your 4WD Andrew.
I probably base this far more on real life experience of my own and that of people I know in the real world rather than info from here. Suspension is one of those things that unless you have a good idea of where the particular person has driven their vehicle then any opinion on it good and bad is hard to put much faith in.
Personally I think if you haven't got 25000kms of corrugated outback roads under your 4wd suspension then you really don't know if its any good or not

I only ever comment on what I have experienced and over the years I have used the brands ome, tjm and pedders with only one of those products failing me and that is pedders so I stand behind my comments.Rob

Now you guys should all know me by now & realise that i'm not the kind of person to bag out anyone else's gear.
I sent a customer replacement front shocks to N.T to suit a 120 series last year.
The vehicle had Pedders shocks in it until then and when mine arrived they wouldn't fit up to the Pedders springs in the car. The shocks were totally different. I double and triple checked and assured them i had sent the correct parts and we started to look at what was wrong.
We looked around at all options as to why, and i checked with all of the replacement aftermarket spring manufacturers besides Pedders to find out if they altered their springs from OE design in the 120 series & they all said no & the springs were all designed to work with OE spring seats.
I asked the client to email me a photo of the Pedders front strut & when it arrived i was a bit gobsmacked.
The strut was not a strut at all. It was a Pajero rear shock with a slip over collar spring seat arrangement.
Further investigation once the spring seat was removed uncovered that the shock is another manufacturers shock
(that i won't name, as they did not know they were doing this) that is repainted & branded as their own, and the part number is covered over by the slip on collar.
Pedders then make their own unique spring to suit their slip over spring seat, that nobody else's gear will mate to.
Why they do that is beyond my comprehension, as you now lose the ability to have an easily purchased anywhere part swapped in to get you out of trouble. (eg: generic spring or shock to get you home.)
My other worry with it is that a Pajero rear shock valving is not near right for the front of a Prado.
I can not understand why they would go to all this trouble when there are a hundred different front struts to suit this vehicle already on the market that they could rebrand to be their own.
My only reasoning, is that that you then have to go back to them as no one else's gear is compatible.
I know they don't do this with all their stuff, and i'm not trying to bag them out, it's just that this one left me scratching my head.
Regards, Jason.

Well that's interesting, however after posting my response last night I got to thinking about things and I remember that I actually have fitted Pedders front struts to my first Prado. I fitted the OME and then rather unexpectedly decided to trade the old Prado on my current one only 5000k later. I kept all the original suspension except the front struts as they were knackered and the catalyst for the upgrade. Anyway I removed the OME as it was worth nothing in the trade and purchased a new set of Pedders front struts that I bolted in with the OE springs no problems at all, they used exactly the same seat as the original, so not sure why you had the experience you did.Originally posted by wholesalesuspension View PostNow you guys should all know me by now & realise that i'm not the kind of person to bag out anyone else's gear.

I only ran those struts for around a week and maybe 500k tops including the 250k trip to trade in the Prado, so cant really comment on their performance, but they fitted fine as per every other brand.

Sorry AJ, i forgot to put in that it is only the Pedders Foam Cell that has this anomaly.Originally posted by AJ120 View PostWell that's interesting, however after posting my response last night I got to thinking about things and I remember that I actually have fitted Pedders front struts to my first Prado. No worries, I don't want to be a salesman for Pedders or anyone else for that matter, I just thought the comment about them being "crap" was overly harsh so offered a different point of view. I've used their gear before in road cars, and I know a couple of blokes running it in 4bys including a guy who had a 4" lift fitted in an 80 series, and crap is not the feedback I get from them.Originally posted by wholesalesuspension View PostSorry AJ, i forgot to put in that it is only the Pedders Foam Cell that has this anomaly.

If u had a failure after 25000k of light offroading you would call it Crap as well.. as I said previously I ONLY comment on what I used personally. And yes my decision was based on using previously on road cars but as for 4WD equipment definately not impressed.Rob
