    mav,

are the tyres showing any abnormal wear? Maybe something is way out of whack in the suspension..

I'd get it checked and sorted in Alice. You don't want this sort of intermittent stuff happening on a trip.

Nope no abnormal wear in fact the Grands are wearing quite well I reckon they have another 20 to 30 thousand K's left in them. The odd thing is that there is no consistency to the problem, sometimes it pulls wildly to the right or left. Then it drives dead true for a few weeks. I am still not discounting an internal tyre problem on one of the front tyres. The creaking from the front drivers side is definitely in the suspension though. I will try and get it looked at in the next couple of weeks, very hard to get things done due to working so far out of town.

What about tramlining due to road surfaces?

Mine has done this, in particular on one section of road outside McDonalds at Edwardstown for the Adelaidians that travel that section! The road is all bumpy length wise and causes this scenario.

          Mav,

Just a thought, the creaking isn't from the inner plastic gaurd? Mine creaks like a bitch sometimes...

Mav I am assuming you have been underneath and checked everything is tight but the only thing I can think of that could do this would be a loose steering rack. Had a similar situation in the mini I owned as a uni student and the rack bolts were not properly tight and under load the rack would move, left or right depending on which side the load was coming from. Didn't need much movement to have a scary effect on progress. Cannot imagine this has anything to do with the suspension fitting but the loads on the rack may be a little higher after the lift and corrugated roads are renowned for loosening bits over time. Hope you get it sorted soon.

No, I cannot contribute the problem to tramlining, I have experienced this on another section of road in another car whilst traveling the Buladehla bends in NSW. The roads it has happened on have been in very good condition.

No I have confirmed that the creaking is coming from one of the mounts on the front drivers suspension assy, I don't think this is a major problem just a bit annoying to hear.

Pretty sure that nothing has been touched in this area but I will get it checked out just in case something has come loose.

Has it had an alignment since being installed?

Are the steering rack ends ok ?

Has the bash plate been folded up against the front a arms anywhere ?

Not sure if its related, but we are having reports that the alloy bottom mount on the strut may be flexing? leading to a noise in the front end that is hard to pin down?

Another user (of different suspension brand) has had the mount crack

Unknown, I will try and get it in for a check up in the next week or two. The car is constantly in use and trying to find down time for it is a struggle.

Not from what I have seen from underneath

Did you mention it to anyone, or just put up with it, didnt organise to have it looked at ?

Yes, spoke with the guy who installed it at TT in Adelaide, he was at a loss as to what could be the cause.
Spoke with the installer today regarding your vehicle, and he said you called him, and you were going to get it checked out, and he has tried to call you 4 times since, as a follow up, but hasnt got an answer on the phone, and hasnt had a call back.

Im sure to save your time, having it checked locally by someone competent, and if its an install error, Im sure the installer will cover the cost of the inspection/fix

He probably has but unfortunately I have changed my mobile and I have prepaid so his messages have gone to my old message bank. I did not bother ringing back at the time cause Darren had just gone on holidays to Queensland when I called.

Thanks Darren, I was not trying to be antagonistic towards anyone. I am certainly not jumping up and down with steam coming out of my ears or anything, sorry if it came across that way  Just thought I might get a pointer as to where to look as it may well not have anything to do with the suspension. Well the creaking thing is but that is a minor annoyance. Now the hard part is to find someone here who can do the check competantly. That is the reason I had it done down in Adelaide and I am not unhappy with TT's service.

Must have been dodgy installers on the Sovereign bull bar.

Dont know what the issue is with you car Mav but dont sound too much like a suspension install. Cant see how that would cause intermittent problems with the steering. Will be interesting to find out the result anyway.

                                Just for the record,

ATS owner [Cliff] has sold and the business has been taken over by someone else, and is in the process of becoming a GoodYear Service Centre.

Cliff is off overseas for many weeks, and the business currently trading as Affordable tyres with new owner, phone No still works, but they are no longer doing 4wd stuff.

So if anyone has a warranty, or other problem, or need parts, wants to chnage spring rates etc etc, we will be more than happy to discuss it, get it sorted etc, just email us, or pick up the phone.
