    Re: OME or KinGS

Have read through most posts on the topic but just wanted to know if anyone has fitted Bilstein shocks with King Springs all the way round but kept the standard ride height? If possible, can you post a rough cost to have installed.

Would be keen to hear some (more) feedback.

      Re: OME or KinGS

Well the decision has been made and Prado booked in for Bilsteins/Kings.

I wasn't keen on a suspension lift as I don't intend on doing any serious off-roading - the Prado will mainly be used for touring (driving back and forward to the in-laws place about 5 odd hours away) and therefore I didn't want to compromise fuel economy and was more keen on improving comfort/handling.

So the Prado was booked in for this Friday, but no one has standard height Kings (maybe this is a sign), so they are coming from the Eastern States so the install will be happening Wednesday week. This isn't such a bad thing as two things: Friday is the 13th (not that I'm toooo superstitious) and second, its meant to be stinking hot on Friday.

I suppose time will tell if I made the right decision, but from all the reports I have read on here Bilstein's seem the way to go, and Kings seem to be highly regarded also.

Can you tell Mrs Madkore all this?

BTW, yes they are variable rate springs.

One more question though.., when upgrading suspension I would think some vehicles would get an upgraded steering stabiliser, no? Is there anything to upgrade with the Prado in this respect?

Well I did in fact print it out and show her - she just sighed and told me she had agreed to it anyway, and I told her I was just showing her that I wasn't talking bullsh*t

            Re: OME or KinGS

Well its the day after and I couldn't be happier!

The results are fantastic after getting the Bilsteins and Kings chucked in. There was a bit of a drama getting the standard height King springs in (apparently there were none in WA and had to come from flood ravaged Queensland).

Anyway, I love the look and love the ride. Nice and firm, but absorbs the bumps fantastically. There is a huge improvement with handling and braking also, more than I ever expected. Even better, the Prado still fits in the garage, if only be mere millimetres. I'll take a picture to show soon enough.

I must thank this forum for all the info on here as I would have gone with OME had it not been for some opinions on here. Anyway, I am over the moon and can't wait to rack up some decent kms on them - have a trip down to Albany in just over a weeks time, so that will be great!

The final price was not cheap, but hopefully I won't have to replace them for a long long time.

Madkore, could u gives us some measurements with the new standard springs. Measure from the bottom of the rim up to the bottom of the guard front and rear please. I am interested as i really can't lift mine due to the garage height.

                    Superhero to the rescue again.

Hutch - my apologies, I just realise I buggered up my measurements as I measured from the ground through the centre of the rim to the wheel arch, rather than from the bottom of the rim.

I'll do it again tonight and get back to you.

                      Alrighty.

                      Front - 764
                      Rear - 793

                      Additional factors:
Alloy bullbar, spotlights, dual battery system, full fuel tanks.

Can't think of anything else, other than my arse, that would impact on the weight. But my arse wasn't in the car when taking measurements

Interesting, that is a good 20mm front (30mm now after some sag) and almost 30mm rear better than my new standard, so for standard height springs they have a little bit of lift. Could be option for me without modding the garage.

                          Thanks, Madkore.

I also put standard kings in the rear to replace sagging standards and now have 795mm at the rear .The difference in handling was a huge plus.Cost $200.00 supplied and fitted by Redlands Springs Capalaba (took 45min to install) back 12mths

                              Re: OME or KinGS

I am of the belief the struts are the non adjustable type dustie. I don't plan on adding anything further to the front of my vehicle, and the difference between front and back seems consistent with other figures people are posting, so I'm happy chappy.

The only thing I may change is putting airbags in the back at a later date to cope with loading up for touring, but this will be further down the track as Mrs Madkore is still getting over the money I have spent on the Prado thus far.

I know how you feel Hutch - I too am in the same situation you describe, so a suspension mod was not just the cost of modifications to the car, I also had the cost of the modifications to the garage to consider as I did not plan on parking the Prado out on the street. Personally, I wasn't interested in lifting it anything beyond stock (approximately) as I didn't want to compromise the ride quality with a lift.

Feel free to ask any further questions - I'll be as honest as I can. As I say, compared to stock, much much better. Compared to other products on the market, I can't say.
