  • Dobinson spring query

The 2 springs I'm looking at for the rear are:
    C59-325 - no constant load.
    C59-327 - 100-300kg constant load.

No I normally don't tow anything and the boot is empty however I occasionally tow a box trailer and our annual holiday somewhere where the back of the car is full to the brim.
    Which would be better?

The springs for the front are either:
    C59-300
    C59-302 - 60-100kg accessories.
I have an ARB bullbar (non winch model) but no winch. I may mod the bar 1 day but tbh I'll likely never get a winch. Which model should I get?

I don't want the car to be too firm.

Wish list in order I'll get them: Sliders, 2" lift, E-locker, Winch bar with winch.

There is no difference in rate between the 300/302, just a height difference.

For the rear, I'd suggest the 327 and add airbags for when it's loaded.

I'm sure Whitey will be along soon. I have some 487's haven't installed yet but weight of dual rear wheel carrier probably makes a difference, might be a bit hard with no load.

You won't need airbags with the 327s with your loads.
Go with airbags with the 325s
      Cheers

Thanks. I'm thinking 302's up front and 327's on the rear.

With the ARB bar & the bash plates go the 302 on the front
          Cheers

I went the 302 front and 327 rear. The front has an alloy bar, dual batteries and bash plates. With a steel bar I think you'll find them fine.
My rear is generally empty and is fairly firm but it's not uncomfortable. Still rides better than factory. As soon as one person hops in the back and you have a couple of things in the boot the ride is fantastic.
If you're worried about it being to firm go the 325's and bags but personally I love the 327's.

                Howdy all,
Apologies for hijacking this thread, but I have a Dobinson's specific query.

I have acquired two front struts from a mate who has just rebuilt his hilux after he drowned it.....

They are GS59-220 with C59-350 springs. Currently they have 25mm strut spacers which I will remove.

To the rear, I am intending to go with C59-327 springs.

Question I have is, which shock should match up with the 327 spring on the rear?

Will these combinations give me a 40 to 50mm lift? Has anyone fit the Hilux struts mentioned? I assume they are ok as they are listed in the Suspension DB as an option.

                Cheers, Sean.

C59-350 are high rate 725lb Prado 150 springs. Prado 120 is normally well less than that. If you go with the 327 in the rear, you will have a hard front and a relatively soft rear. Is that what you want? Hilux struts will fit in a 120, you need to watch for enough travel and avoid topping out with shorter than ideal strut length.

If it were me, I'd swap the front springs for Prado 120 rate. Strut spacers might help but I think 25mm would be too much.

I'm sure Whitey and Gordo will have some suggestions.

Thanks for the feedback. Decided to list them on ebay and I'll go for a more standard set of Dobinsons.
