Hey all,
There have been a few posts recently on replacing worn out bushes in the IFS lower control arms, particularly in older 120 Prados. This has been problematic from the perspective that there has not been an after market complete-arm replacement, and as such many owners (myself included) have gone through the difficult process of removing flogged out bushes/and or seized adjusting cams.
The R&D team from Fulcrum/Superpro have now released a one-piece complete arm replacement, which includes a new arm, new ball joint, new Superpro bushings, and new one-piece forged cam bolts, shown below.
The arms are a similar geometry and design to the OEM arms, and utilise similar thickness robotically welded steel plate. The new ball joint works within the same included angle as the OEM ball joint. Bushings are constructed from Superpro material, and are available in standard or camber offset geometry.
The cam bolts are an interesting design, and replace the troublesome cam/sleeve design from Toyota, eliminating the potential for seized cams. The bolts are one-piece drop forged, and utilise a reduced centre section which avoids the possibility of seizing, and which can be filled and lubricated with a healthy helping of anti-sieze.
Here’s a photo of the arms on my 120;
Shot of the Superpro bushings;
Close up of the ball joint;
I’ve been driving on these for a few weeks now, and while they felt a bit stiffer than the OEM arms during their break in period, I can’t tell the difference now driving along bumpy Brisbane streets, their ride feel on hard surfaces is excellent.
Part numbers are TRD471 for standard, and TRC472 for offset bushings.
Next up for these arms is a good off road test!
