  • What would you recommend for a 2" lift?

The time has come to lift my Prado a couple of inches - or 50mm in today's currency - front and back. The car gets pretty well loaded on camping trips, but also acts as my daily city/road driver. I have an ARB deluxe bar up front with a winch going in fairly soon, so the front will need a fair bit of propping up to cope with the extra weight.

While I have been ploughing though umpteen posts and threads in this section I'd like a fresh and more up to date take on this. I live in Victoria, so they'll be used in some pretty diverse conditions from rutted mountain tracks to sand to corrugations. Just like most of us, I guess...

If you're kind enough to reply to this, please state which spring and shocks you're using - and also let me know why you like (or dislike) them. Please don't just say, "I use Brand X and they rock...". Any good fitter recommendations also welcome.

I have been doing a bit of homework on this, but would like to hear more opinions before whipping my wallet out.

Many thanks for your 31st reply... ;-)

Can you tell me why you deem these the way to go? Does the set up have any effect on your articulation? What sort of $$$'s are we looking at? And finally, who would you recommend for the job? When you say 're-valved', I take it there's a 'custom element' involved - if so, I can't trust any old guy to do the job.

Thanks Samo - still running well? Any probs with the front suspension? A dealer trying to sell me Lovells has been bad-mouthing Ironman... but then again, not being an Ironman dealer he would, wouldn't he...! :-)

if you can, try and hold out for the new OME nitrocharger sport range. release date is april. i will be fitting these to my prado as soon as i can. will be slightly dearer than the usual OME with the nitrocharger shocks. i think this may be between $1800-$2000 fitted depending.

I can wait, but not much longer than April . In the meantime, is there any more info available? Maybe they have some test reports? Hopefully they are lining up a comparo with one of the 4x4 mags.

i still have the suspension on deeptank, i am more than happy with it, i havent had any issues at all, while it does ride a little more solid than std the handling and articulation r greatly improved over std.

Why would I fit something on my car that hasn't even been tested yet...? Of course OME/ARB are going to wax lyrical about it, but what about an unbiased 3rd party test report...?

It'll be April by the time I get around to it, but I don't want to pay close to $2k to become someone's beta tester. If it's tried and tested kit then $2k is no problem.

I've just grabbed the ARB press release PDF from the other thread, but it'll take a lot more than ARB's word to convince me... Their Deluxe bullbars are also supposed to be the mutt's nuts. Mine was so good they had to replace it a couple of months in due to rust and paint cracking/chipping...

Thanks again Samo - I emailed them yesterday, but yet to hear back. Their HQ isn't too far from me, so might swing by to see what schpiel they'll spin me. The Prado is so damn comfy, if it bocemes a tad more solid that won't kill me.

Re: What would you recommend for a 2" lift?

                      Hi Guys

I have a 120 diesel on order and the local ARB in Brisvegas quoted me $1597.00 fitted. So I would check around for price. I have had Nitro's for years on all my 4WDs and never had a problem from city to touring (extended) to hard core panle busting. Landcruisers, Prado (90 series fitted 04 and still going strong), GQ patrol, Suzuki and Pajero (apologise for this last one that won't happen again).

I'll let you know how they go when I get the car.

                      Richo.

The new ARB range is just the old range with new stickers, and new paint color, some part No's have been revalved, which was badly needed, but otherwise they are pretty much the same thing, from the same place, by the ame people.

This is from the poeple who make them

Re: What would you recommend for a 2" lift?

I went ahead last week and had the Lovell's fitted - about 2" lift at the front and a tad more at the back. The ride is a little more harsh than before, but has settled a bit already. Should hopefully get onto some bush tracks this weekend to check it out further. Cornering on roads and roundabouts is a whole new ball game now...!

I also got quotes from ARB for OME's and their new 'Sport' OME's and while I was willing to pay the $$$'s, some feedback I've had on OME recently made me go elsewhere.

BTW, the enquiry I sent Ironman about three weeks ago remains unanswered. Man, their business must be doing very well to warrant ignoring customers...
