  • King springs for slight lift without fruit (no bullbar etc)

Hi all, I have searched high and low for an answer, however most of you seem to have fruit on your Prado's so I have found it difficult to find expected ride heights and droop for my proposed options.

Options I am looking at are KYB scorched 4's with king springs KTFR-101 and KTRR-102 which are the standard raised king springs (not HD etc).

Usually use the car for driving around town, but with occasional bush/beach trips on the cards, maybe a longer trip with a bit more weight on the rare occasion but not too heavy.

And my car has 200k km on it , with what looks to be original shocks and springs (bought it this way recently) so I believe they might need replacing.
Also chasing a steering wobble/side to side knock and the usual suspects (LCA bushes, cv, ball joints, wheel bearings and balance) look okay to me.

the KYB Scorched 4's with kings seem pretty good value at ~$800 for parts... will fit myself no worries.

Have read all whitey's ramblings regarding bilstein 713 not being suitable for the rear due to lack of droop at 2" lift and can see the rear scorched 4 is a similar open length, but thinking i may still have enough rear droop with a bit less than 2" lift?? Maybe a lift of 35mm ish would be suitable? Which is probably over 2 inches from where its at now anyway, with the old worn springs.

Any information would be much appreciated!

    Cheers

Save yourself a world of pain. Call John at Zordos. He has forgotten more about Prado suspension than most will ever know!

appreciate that, just looking to go into that conversation with a bit of an idea...

Seems like the following would work
kyb scorched 4 prado 120 strut on the front with king standard raised spring
kyb scorched 4 prado 150 strut on the rear with king standard raised spring

the 150 strut on the rear provides a more suitable droop with the lift.

Is there any reason not to just order a kyb scorched 4/king springs prado 150 front/rear kit for the 120?
Are the mountings/bushes the same for prado 150 and 120?
I see the shock part numbers differ, but the king springs are the same?

KYBs used to be very soft, similar to factory. I wouldn't go that way. 150 and 120 are subtlely different and tge 150nis heavier. All this is covered in the suspension threads for each model. Have a look. Anyway, no idea what you mean about the strut on the rear as they are springs and shocks not struts. Like I said call John. He is happy to talk through options and provides a better price and gear than the big guys.

I tried reading suspension threads and there is simply too much information to make sense of...
RE strut I should have said shock, so just replace strut with shock.

I am mostly chasing feedback from those people who have installed KYB Skorched 4 shocks.

Like I said I will call john but first i want to get feedback from those who have used KYB

Are those the 35mm bore Twin tube shocks? In that case no one will have them. They will overheat in no time on a Prado.

If you cannot follow the threads then talk with John before you buy anything,

Yes 35mm with 16mm shafts. Saw some threads from a while ago where people said they had them and were happy, which is why i ask now to see how they went longer term.

Haha yeah I got the message I will talk to john also!

I use mine 120 for touring, it has covered most of the works roads in Australia, I have Kings raised all round and Koni shocks, I put air bags in the back in the back as I didn't want heavy duty springs. The ride is much better than the standard suspension setup, even when well loaded and with the weight of the camper on the back I only need around 8PSI in the airbags to level her up. This setup was recommended to me by a highly regarded 4X4 serice mob in Melbourne, the guys that own and operate the company do a lot of touring also. Mate has same setup in his prado and never had any issues.

The service crowd also changed the top strut plates to 150 Grande I think they were a couple of services back as they said they have never seen any of those fail but have had the occasional 120 ones fail.

                  Thanks LeighW!
Am I correct to assume you have a Prado which came with factory airbags?

As for the strut tops, I suppose if you use anything long enough it is bound to fail, could be a case of 120's having been around for a bit longer than 150's

No, airbags were installed with the new suspension. The top plates were done when I needed to replaced the lower bushes on the Konis, they suggested
that they replace the upper mounting with the 150 type at the same time as they are a better unit.

Zanadar, did you set the Skorched4 and King Springs?
I'm looking to change the suspension on mine (Prado 120 3 door).

I want to know what you did to see what I can do.
                      RIDE ON!!
