Hi All

Got an age old problem that I cannot resolve and any help would be great.
Got my rear airbags replaced today (replaced with OEM) but now the height control doesn’t work. Guys who replaced them said they cleared errors and I tried pulling out ECU fuses and left them out for 5min. It’s got me and the guys at Pedders buggered.

Hahah Good old pedders.

Theres a few write ups on this site on how to sort this.

Basically if they have managed to miss getting it to start inflating within 2 mins they have likely locked it out for up to 70 mins each time.

Put a bit of air in the bags with a compressor, Have vehicle so rear end is hanging and not sitting with weight on it. (Jack under towball or hoist etc)
Bit of air in the bags.
Reset any fault codes (Most code readers WON'T read some of the hidden air suspension codes. And hence cant reset some).
The system should start inflating, as it does, slowly lower weight onto the rear, issue should be sorted. (If compressor pumps too long, it will fault again).

Thanks Piggy…the rear bags are inflated and seem to be stuck on highest setting just looking at the stance of the vehicle and I cannot go to “L” even though dashboard indicates it’s at “N”!?!? The light just flashes forever when I try height adjustment.

I thought pulling both ECU fuse resets fault codes but no errors on dashboard?

Air suspension stuff doesn't normally display the ECU error light, nor are they shown by a lot of readers.

Did they put the right length bags in? It should be sitting on bump stops if they are empty. What happens if you drop a hose off them? Do they lower? This is the way to see if they are wrong bags (Too long). You can also disconnect pipes at compressor to make it easier to test this.

Did they damage the rear height setting potentiometer? Its connected to the rear arm by a small adjustable rod. Disconnect that and try the different heights on that. at its lowest it will be pushed all the way up. At highest all the way down..

If they have somehow screwed the unit/rod, it may think it is already at N (Level) when its actually pumped super high. I would be looking at this first before anything.

I purchased OEM bags through Toyota but all the dealerships gave me 2-3 weeks for installation so I can only assume they are the correct bags.

I called around and the local Pedders was the only place that had available time to install. I’ll take a look but I’m no mechanic!

I purchased OEM bags as I thought it would be an easy swap out…I guess I was wrong.

Post some photos of the airbags and the height sensors. We might be able to pick out what's wrong.

Thanks everyone for advice and feedback…wouldn’t you know it after about a week of driving and not doing anything to correct the issue it automagically fixed itself and started working normally.
