Re: TJM Gold suspension - has anyone fitted it

    Cheers Hutch,

I think I'm firmly decided on the TJM Gold after a phone call with a mate who has them.

I now have to get the money out of the Minister of War and Finance.

Re: TJM Gold suspension - has anyone fitted it

I fitted TJM gold suspension apprx month ago and have found the ride on the black top great. I also fitted poly airs for towing but probably didn't need them. Cornering is nowehere near as "wallowy" on stock suspension.

Have only taken beach and dunes so far and again has performed faultlessly.

      My thoughts anyway........
2005 GXL, TJM XGS Gold suspension, Poly Airbags, Airtec Snorkel, TJM T13 Bullbar, TJM Bashplate, Tracklander Roof rack with Red Centa awning, Red arc Dual battery, MT 4 ribs, cargo barrier.

You wouldn't recommend the air bags on the rear.

I tow a Camping Trailer with approx 100kg drawbar weight (trailer approx 950kg loaded).

Was going to pay the money to have them if needed.

What set-up are you running on the rear (Med or Heavy Duty).

If I can save a few bucks and avoid the Airbags that aren't required I'll do it.

Re: TJM Gold suspension - has anyone fitted it

My camper trailer is probably similar overall weight although must admit not quite sure of tow ball weight. I have a coromal magnum which has its wheels
positioned at the rear and a toolbox at front so it seemed to have a relatively high towball load. I went for the air bag as when
had the standard suspension it sagged a lot ( and I mean a lot).

TJM called it the "comfort" setting to me so I will need to check if that means medium - it definitely wasn't heavy duty. It was probably always touch and go whether
I needed the air bags but went for them as I basically wasn't charged any labour costs when doing all at once ( and got the bags cheaper also).

I have only towed camper once sits fitting suspension and had minimal air in the air bags (apprx 11psi) and the camper sat perfectly and towed a whole lot better. The min psi you are meant to keep with air bags is 6psi so not much above the min anyway. I do need to test at the min level on air bags but I expect it will still be okay.

It still gives me options so I certainly don't regret getting them fitted but at a guess (mind you please bear in mind this is all new to me) you will probably
          get away without the airbags.

Would be interested to hear how you go

Re: TJM Gold suspension - has anyone fitted it

I thought I would add some comment to this thread having just fitted TJM XGS Gold and TJM (King) springs at 70000Kms. I had fitted to a 2007 D4D Prado at new (400kms old) a Bilstien/Lovells kit and was impressed by the firmness for carying loads and ability to soak up the bumps over the standard Toyota equipment. At 50000Kms I replaced in a rush (ready for a trip to the Cape) the bilstein/lovels gear with ARB Nitro sport and left the Lovells springs in and found this setup to be far too soft and regularly bottomed out or felt like it did and the body roll and wallowing was far too much also.

I waited till I had saved enough and was going to go with Bilstein/Lovels again, couldn't handle the wallowing of the ARB gear. But had a closer look at the new TJM XGS Gold shocks and was surprised by the build qulaity and specifications. Now I have fitted 3 different 4wd's over the years with different suspensions from Koni, DeCarbon (ultimate), Bilstien and ARB NitroSport and have to say that I am initially impressed by the TJM XGS Gold and KingSpring raised kit fitted to my prado this time.

I had requested for the front the +35kg raised springs (I have TJM Alloy Bar incl winch cradle but no winch, Dual Batteries and Air compressor under the bonnet) and the ride/feel is firm so body roll is reduced but high speed bumps are soaked up very well also. In the rear I had fitted the +150kg to GVM raised coils and airbags (airbags as I tow a large boat loaded with gear for camping and I leave my fridge and draws in the back all the time). The rear is fine when loaded but can be a little harsh if there is nothing in the back of the Prado for general tarmac driving (would go for lighter spring if regularly driving unloaded - airbags at lowest seting 5psi).

After a trip up north again and fully loaded with about 16psi in the airbags I am plesently surprised at how well the TJM XGS Gold suspension has performed, although I have only travelled about 5000kms on it so far. Now I know that my orriginal Bilsteins were rebuildable but to give up my car for 3 days to have them removed sent away, serviced and at a price of $900 to service old shocks seamed ludicrus, so I went to ARB NiroSport and was not as impressed by this equipment as some other members on this site are.

Time will tell as to how well the TJM equipment lasts, but I am impressed with it so far and at a price of $1400 for Springs and Shocks fully installed (I already had the airbags) including a wheel alignment check I am more than happy.

Re: TJM Gold suspension - has anyone fitted it

Good write up on the TJM, I think your thoughts around the ARB could be mis judged based on the fact u only changed shocks and not the springs as well. I have loved the full ARB sport set up in my car.
                Just giving another opinion.

Jimmy u have my thoughts already, i love it and as u can see from the thread i have also supported the ARB in the past so i am not one eyed like some of our contributers.

Hi Jimmy I had TJM XGS Gold fitted six months ago. Very happy with it Heavys on front and medium i think not heavy on rear with air bags. The wagon handles well on road and hard to fault on the gravel (rock) roads we get in the Pilbara. Ive had a hilux with OME a 90 Prado with Bilsteins so im not set on one brand but would happly put the XGS Gold on the wagon again. Hope this helps
                      Cheers Wayne

Ive got my car booked in next month for the XGS gold kit. OME wasnt much dearer but TJM won at the end of the day. From reading the posts on here the XGS seemed a better option for the mostly highway driving we do. Ive asked for the medium springs all around, we only have the bullbar upfront and cant see me putting in a dual battery kit any time soon! Occasionally we tow a camper but havent worried about getting airbags put in, we travelled all over NSW and VIC with the factory suspension and it coped fine. If I was towing on a regular basis then maybe....

Had the TJM kit fitted a few days ago and first impression is a good one! car definately feels a little firmer on the road, and I dont get the body roll when turning corners anymore..It was fitted at the St marys, SA store and I received a discount for being a pradopoint member, so very happy with that!
havent got around to measuring how much height the car has gained, but its definately noticable..i nearly rolled my ankle getting out of it when i arrived home!

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I don't think my question warrants a new one.

Does anyone know if the front springs with model no, 770FR88I-HD are the same as the code 770FRHD88I currently advertised on their website? I picked up a set of springs cheap on ebay (brand new) but they are old stock, with 2008 on the box and are the former code.

I had the TJM XGS Gold kit installed when I first got my car 6 months ago. I never intended to do the kind of trips and mods I am now doing, so I just had the SD springs fitted. Now I'm wanting to put a winch and dual batteries on, I figure I should upgrade the front to Heavy Duty springs. I don't really want to do the job twice, so I'd rather find out if they are the wrong ones before I put them on.

                              Hey budgie913,
Just after some feedback on how the TJM Gold have performed and if you fitted air bags.

I have have a similar camper and I'm considering using the TJM Gold or Tough Dog.
I've seen some bad comments on Tough Dog but not TJM Gold.

                              Thanks

I am running TJM gold been very good, if u are towing the camper I would go the airbags to assist.
