I found a much better deal to swap the Grandtreks to Pirelli ATRs, $200 to swap all 5. I think I will go for this.

Prado Tracking shows - "At Dealership - Being prepared for pickup".
    Any day now.

Any ideas where in Brisbane you can get these (265/65 R17 Pirelli Scorpion ATR) from.

I see you are on the North Side - as I am so you may have a good tyre shop.
Silver 2005 GXL Prado, Petrol, auto, gold plated rated recovery points, 60ltr Waeco, Vacation Camper, Gunyah side shade, 265/65 17R Pirelli Scorpian ATR tyres (x4) and 1 new Grand Crapper (spare), Max Air II plus still lots of recovery gear!! And PradoPoint sticker!!

Wish list - ARB steel bull bar, 2 inch lift, dual battery system, snorkel, milford cargo barrier, black widow rear draw system and rear lockers as well as new bash plates for the ones I have trashed. Oh and yes a 150!!!

          Pirelli Scorpion

I just put the Pirelli Scorpions on (16/02) cost $293.00 Fitted and Balanced each at Jax's (Capalaba)
but Bob Jane Emailed yesterday to say they can now match this price.

            Wattsy,

Great price - I haven't got near that in Perth - yet. All the dealers are telling me there are no 70s in Australia (except in-store stock) and the wait is 2-3 weeks. But I guess that just gives me time to try for some price matching/healthy competition between dealers

are these 265/65 or 265/70 and LT?

now get them out bush and give us a report

I reckon I am sold on these, even though the tread doesn't look that aggressive (my alternative is BFG). I read somewhere that it's not all about the size of the knobs (stay out of the gutter gentlemen), but the design of the pirelli tread spits out water and mud so effectively that it gets away with less chunky tread pattern. Comments from the tyre blokes on here?

              Hi Fishnut
Mine are 265/65.They are very quiet on the road.I went with 20 odd other PP's to Mount Mee last Sunday without any problem's,but I only tackled the Moderate stuff.
By the way my 120's Maroon.
It's my understanding that the 265/70 are illegal in QLD.

Another Prado owner with taste - MAROON all the way!!! (i need one of those pointy stick emoticons  )

you have to get some photos of your car on here somewhere!

Right, I remember that Qld thing. I am hoping for the 70s.

Did you see any mud? How'd it sit in the tread? I reckon they would work well in most situations, but it's the mud I am least convinced about.

I bit the bullet and bought 4 265/65 17R Pirelli Scorpian ATR tyres (x4) today - ready for the Springs 4x4 park this weekend

There has been some good debate on this forum about these little beauties so I thought I would give them a whirl.

The tread pattern is not as aggressive as I had thought it would be (like on the Bridgestone 694s) but from the forum feedback they perform very very well - especially in sand and water. Road noise is minimal.

A description is in the attached link - with a picture of the tread pattern

                    http://www.pirelli.com.au/web/catalog/c ... _desc.page

No idea how they will go at a 4x4 park but we are going to find out pretty damn soon - 3 more sleeps

Re cost - $289 each balanced and fitted + $4.50 disposal cost for grand treks at Jax Mitchelton. I think they had another 20,000kms in them so they will probably sell. I got everything aligned as well so a few more $$$$ but worth the effort I am sure.

If I had bought 5 from another Jax dealer they would have given me a $200 trade in on my brand new Grand Trek spare. Unfortunately the only Jax store that had any of these tyres only had four so I have kept the Grand Trek as a spare. Given it has the same specs as the Scorpian ATR it should be fine as a spare.

                    Cheers

Price from BJT was approx. $50 more per tyre. If no one else had them in stock I may have gone back to haggle but unfortunately for BJT Jax did have them in stock!

The guys at BJT at Chermside sounded a friendly mob but I have to say Jax at Mitchelton were excellent (I have no affiliations to them)

Thats interesting, maybe i will have to start shopping around, up until this car most of mine have been company leases so price really wasn't an issue, but now it is my hard earned cash, MMMMMMM must remember this one.

The Pirelli's tested are the older AT version, so not the ATR.

Hopefully the ATRs will go better than the ATs.

Any idea what the R stands for - All Terrain R?
