    Hi,
    Has anyone had some experience with the effect if any on ride comfort when LT tyres have been fitted and is it possible to convey that in "it rides like there is 45 psi" or something of that nature.

    Secondly what sort of minimum pressures can you run on 265/65/17 LTs.

    I normally run 30 psi in city with no load in the Prado and that gives me the 4-5 psi increase when hot and I have very even tyre wear.

    With a full trip load and the OME suspension it rides as smooth as a standard suspension Prado and I was a bit concerned that the LT tyres might make the ride a bit harsh.

    I put LT on a Targo I had at one time, didn't fell any different to the
    standard tyres fitted.

      I have Mickey Thompson STZ LT tyres in 265/65/17 size. They are NO different to the original Grandtreks (non-LT construction) in terms of ride harshness. (I have Bilstein shocks and a 2" lift via EFS springs).



      I keep them at 40PSI around town, which is the same as I set the Grandtreks at. This makes the ride/handling slightly more "firm" than if I used 30PSI, however I prefer the steering and handling like this.

      On Fraser Island, I set the tyres to 22PSI for soft sand. On the CREB track, I set the tyres to 18PSI for wet clay. No problems in either case.


      They are a little (barely) more noisy, however that is due to the tread pattern, not the LT construction.

        I have D694s in LT fitted and didn't notice any increase in harshness. I run 37 psi on the road, drop to 28 psi for off-road (not sand) and normally run 18 psi for sand but have been as low as 14 psi for fine powdery sand with no dramas at all.

        Like you I have OME Suspension with a 2" lift.

          i went from grandtreks to D694 lt and i noticed a big difference in harshness in the ride . you can drop the pressures,which makes it better but risk chewing the edges off the tyres early .
          03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

            Sorry, should have said - I wasn't going from Grandtreks. I think it had Kuhmo tyres but they weren't LTs.

                  Thanks for all the replies. I have just put on five (5) new Bridgestone D694 265/65/17 LT's . Bought from Costco in Sydney. Total cost fit/balance/torqued by hand $1355. Also included in that price is rotate/balance and free flat repair at any Costco store for the life of the tyres. A bloody good deal I reckon.

                      Nice work Max - id be surprised if you're not happy with the D694.

                      I run my Mickey Thompson ATZ (LT) at 36psi round time and unloaded and that seems to feel about right for me - also OME lift...

                      Yes the LT carcass is thicker and much stronger than a passenger carcass but you wont even notice its an LT after a couple of days!
