Can't comment on the AT700 but my experience with Maxxis 753 Bravo was that they are near bullet proof. Don't tend to enjoy the same profile as Coopers or BFG but I think they are a very underrated tyre.
I have had the AT700's on for 6 months, drive a lot on dirt roads around home, a lot on road but also have done good deal of beach work and some loose rocky stuff with these on. I chose these as i was up for 5 new tyres, with 17's we dont have as much choice as 16's, and i could get 5 for less than the the price of 4 of virtually every other brand-name tyre and that was a bit of a deal breaker for our household when we looked at our normal offroad trips being on sand for the majority.
On the highway they are very quiet and smooth normally. On dirt they have good grip and feel very secure with no signs of damage. One thing i have noticed and this is why i say they are normally smooth is that going from dirt to bitumen, they tend not to flick the stones out that well, get enough stones on one side and you can feel it as you dont need much to weight to unbalance a tyre slightly. I have had other tyres and you hear the stones flicking out straight away, within a km or so its only an odd one that may be stuck. But these, you get home and there is a dozen or so stones still there! Its not the end of the world, just something i noticed.
On sand they bag out nicely and have excellent flotation. On the loose rocky trails and steep slopes they gave plenty of grip, but did chip and tear up a bit more than i expected. Plenty of scares and scrape marks, but no punctures.
I have used a few different brands of tyre at home and for work, and for the initial dollar outlay i would say these really are a good value A/T. I am interested to see how many k's i get to see how good value they actually are, but so far i have found them to be good on road, dirt and especially sand. Like them or not Bridgestone 694's are an excellent sand tyre, these are as good. Nomatter what the companies say, all tyres chip, tear and puncture in gibber and loose rocks, but if you do plan to drive a lot of steep rocky slopes like i said i was a bit surprised at the wear rate and would question how long they would last.
G'day to all fellow Prado owners. I'm new to the world of Prado's and also to the forum. Wifey and I just recently purchased a 2006 Prado GXL, can't wait to get out and about amongst the bush and beach, previously had a Kluger great car but obviously limitied in 4WD ability. But first things first, when we bought it we knew it was needing new shoes, so what I'm hoping to find out is if there is any update to this thread regarding the MAXXIS AT-700. eg wear and tear aswell as performance. Got a price today from one of our local dealers and he said $230 per tyre F & B inc wheel alignment. I don't know if I can justify shelling out per tyre $375 for MT or $360 for Coopers when we are not intending on heading off anytime soon for a round Oz trip. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I was wondering if anyone had an update on these tyres for longevity? I have read others comments on the Pirelli ATR's and they appear to be quite well regarded however I would like to hear others opinions about the Maxxis AT700's.
Thanks heaps
