Hi All,

I Have wanted to fit Black Rims to my 09 120 series Prado for a while now, but finding it hard to justify the cost when thers heaps of other stuff i want, so i wondered if anyone has painted there Alloy wheels Black.
I made a few enquiries at my local Auto parts shop, & the rep said you can do it with VHT wheel paint & it,s chip resistant.
Any thoughts....would be cheap option, but stuff them up &........

Thanks ntp, i did a quick search but came up zilch,,,never seems to work for me soz......Thanks for the links & D4D, Looks awsome, im gonna do it, but have,nt got 2nd rims to keep off my Prado, so will have to do it over a w/e or wait for a long w/e, but then i want to be 4x4 ing

Black Rims----Done

Well i bit the bullet & painted my Rims, took all w/e & plenty of cleaning & liberal use of prep wash....here's the results

Did mine not long after I got it, slightly different to others though I went satin black.

Thanks Josh & D4D, I used VHT Wheel paint,
Got it from Autobarn, $16.95 per can, used 4 cans
Plus prep wash, it's Spose to be heat & chip resistant
High Gloss.
Now to see if it's true, hope they don't get shabby
After 1st bog hole.

Just colour or did you add a clear coat too?

Yep just colour, was gonna do clear top coat,
But the Rep at Autobarn said the clear coat was the same as the Black
Without the colour in it?? So I thought I'd just add
More coats later if needed, according to can, additional
Coats can be added after 7 days, when fully cured.

Hey Steve, sorry to revive old thread but how is the paint job holding up? I have some new rims on the way that I want to either paint or powder coat, the place that did my current wheels want $200 a pop. Have also thought about just plasti-dipping them as you can peel it off and re-do it if it gets damaged, but not sure I want a matte finish.

Wheels holding up very well, done heaps of rough off road trips & still pretty good..#### knows someone that does powder coating, not sure how much per wheel, you would have to ask him..

Thanks Steve, will ask #### about the powder coating too. Some say paint is better, some say powder coat, hard to know.

FJ Cruiser rims, new style. Might leave them silver but will decide when they get here, they look good black too.
