255 not 195 buster oz, it's no thinner than a 265 all terrain when you take into account side biters on a muddy2004 Manual Turbo diesel 1KZ-TE , 5" lift , 37x12.5 BF Goodrich KM2

Just another point, you say you don't need a re gear as its only for off road, going from a standard 31" tyre to a 35" tyre is going to gear it up a fair bit, gearing off road is just as important as on road, particularly going down hill.
If you fit 35's and don't do all the other things needed to make them work you will have more ground clearance for sure, but likely have a less capable off roader, which would defeat the purpose.
As for insurance and legalities, lots of "off road" roads are still gazetted and therefore you need to roadworthy.
If you really want to go the big tyre route and your limited for funds then selling the Prado and going for a live axle like an 80 series will get you what you want for a reasonable cost.

When lockers come, then it will be time for a re gear .. 80 's are crap and loud and slow and drive like a truck. I allready get just as far as my mates 80 and he is on 3.5" lift and 33x12.5 , I'm still 2" and on 265 Pirelli scorpions!! Prados are too comfy too nice, I do alot of on road driving , I got prado in may 2011 and have done over 50,000kms on her. Prados are so capable and not many know it, all she needs is a decent set of boots to help with lack of ground Clearence and it will be even more capable.2004 Manual Turbo diesel 1KZ-TE , 5" lift , 37x12.5 BF Goodrich KM2

Main reason theres no 120's around with 35's is because their impractical and unnecessary. 33's dont require any body mods to fit, their lighter by a fair bit and their cheaper which considering how many tyres ive seen off rims or punctured on tracks make them far more practical.
Not trying to shoot down your dream of 35's just wanted to point out that theres alot of mechanical and physical hurdles to go through to make them function properly.97' Prado VX Grande Emerald/Silver, 3.4L, auto, Bilstein shocks/ Dobinsons coils 2'' lift, breathers on everything, snorkel, Maxxis Bighorns. Yeah coz that's how it works. Insurance companies make all their money by getting fooled so easily.Originally posted by Ghostriderhusky View PostHaha why does nobody have a sense of humour here.. I've got 2" and that's legal. Tow her home and put on my standard roadies and insurance is sweet
You want to speak to someone with a sense of humour? Pick up the phone and speak to any insurance assessor, theyr'e a laugh a minute when it comes to paying out on an un-roadworthy write off.2012 D4D GXL Auto - Graphite with some TJM enhancement.

Hahaha this guy... But serious question how would they know it's unroadworthy? Not that I'm contemplating doing this I'm not like that.. But theoretically you had a bigger than legal tyre on during a rollover in the bush, and you towed the car home and put on legal tyres , how would an insurance inspected know?2004 Manual Turbo diesel 1KZ-TE , 5" lift , 37x12.5 BF Goodrich KM2

As a general rule, once tow companies know it is an insurance job (or in most cases even if they don't) they will not tow a wreck to your house, they will only tow it to a holding yard and to gain access you will either have to pay them for the tow, which usually = $$. If you claim the insurance assessor will visit the wreck at the yard and deturmine whether it is now their property and write it off or whether it will be then on-towed to a repairer. You will also find that most tow companies photograph the vehicle / wreck prior to towing as well.
If you wreck it in the bush, to the extent that it is a write off, you are uninjured and you manage to tow it home yourself and change the illegal bits and then manage to explain all of this to the assessor (eg why no police report was made, why a professional tow company was not used etc. etc.) and he believes you - then good Luck to you, you've beaten the house.2012 D4D GXL Auto - Graphite with some TJM enhancement.
