OK, I've gone and done a 180 on the M/T issue. I've got 6 x KM2s coming over from east. As I am moving up north where the rainfall is considerably more prominent than here in Kal I might actually be better off with the M/T pattern. I'll give it a go. I have 2 sets of wheels and the present BFG A/T still have heaps of tread on them albeit a fair bit chipped from my last cross country jaunt. I'll see how they go.

I guess everybody wants a piece of the pie over west. For sure things are cheaper on this side but hey, we earn less too? maybe? I picked up 5 KM2's last week for $1445 fitted and balanced from Tempe in Sydney.

Got my 5 tyres fitted and balanced, they put the second spare up on the roof and supplied 2 new steel wheel nuts for the spare as I only have 24 steel nuts for the steelies. They also checked the alignment as the toe-in had creeped a little since the last alignment. All this for $100 cash! Got to be happy with that. Just done 2200km Kalgoorlie to Broome and was surprised at the smooth drive even on the dirt at 30psi.

Turned it into a Pradolux. These tyre mag combo is approx 5 kg heavier than the original mag with BFG all terrain tyres.

It also had the same offset as standard so no extra load on the bearings or suspension components.

Only been on for 1/2 day, a little bit noisier than the all terrains but not as noisy as the original mud terrains we had on our 80 series.

          Rusty.

Just had new boots put on my Prado.

Went for the KM2s in 265/70R17 size, and even after only 2 days I'm seriously impressed with their onroad grip (obviusly no question about their offroad performance!).

Noise is up a bit, but no more than the MT MTZs I ran on my old 80 series.

And the best bit? The price. These tyres, in this size, were $280 per corner - that's over $650 less for the 5 than I was quoted elsewhere (best quote elsewhere was $410 per tyre), and they were cheaper than the same size BFG AT which I think is way out of date in terms of tread design for an AT tyre.

So anyone looking for new tyres should seriously consider these, and if you're anywhere near Sydney make the trip to Tempe Tyres.

Can anyone make comment on the noise of these things compared Toyo Open Country AT (LT)?

We put these in 285/75 16 on the P-ute and compared to the Maxxis Bighorn muddies that sometimes live on the C-ute they are silent! Noisier than an AT but very good for a mud tyre in my opinion.

I really can't hear any noise from mine. They are brand new and I can feel the difference through the drive line. I am a little aurally challenged according to SWMBO but there's heaps of cars up here with the KM2s and you don't notice them compared to some of the cheaper brands.

An army mate tells me the new Mercedes Benz long range patrol vehicles are fitted with the KM2s.
