  • Staun Bead Locks

    Hi all,

Has anyone installed the Staun bead locks? If so what are your thoughts on them? They look to be a great idea for stopping the tyres coming off at low PSI. I noticed that they were already on ebay and was thinking about getting a set.

They are illegal for road driving mav. You don't really need them in sand.
More for comps and stuff... The cheap way of doing similar stuff is to use
good quality tubes in tubeless tyres (mainly for mud/rock stuff not for sand). Won't be able to go to 2psi with tubes but 10 psi would be ok for the mud.

          Correct internal legal* external illegal

          * the act of drilling the 2nd valve hole in the rim does technically make the rim unroadworthy...

A friend has them, good for not losing a tyre off the rim but you still get crap in the bead which causes leaks, not a 100% solution

I know this is an old thread, but just to clarify for external bead locks (in Qld anayway) You need to check what markings are on the bead lockers. If they have markings on them similar to: 6J, 7J or a stamp from the manufacturer then they can be used on the road as long as then don’t protrude or the possibility of them coming loose. If they have no markings or manufactures stamp then they are illegal for road use.

In SA the act of drilling the 2nd hole in the rim makes them unroadworthy, you'd be unlucky to be caught out though...most coppers wouldn't notice the second valve at a glance

May be a good option for a second set of steelies with some aggressive muddies on.

Still a bit of overkill on a car like the Prado, not exactly a hardcore rock crawler.

              1. tyres... 2. lift.... 3. diff lock... You'd be surprised how capable the Prado is with these mods. Next step would be to buy a dedicated rock crawler
