      • Just in case anyone is still on the hunt for the D694 LTs Bob Jane T-Marts are currently advertising them for $284 in a 265/70 R16 or $294 in a 265/75 R16. They don't have larger sizes listed in the flyer but maybe they are on special too, worth a call anyway. The prices listed include fitting, balancing, GST & tyre disposal fee.

I can't tell you how they compare to Cooper of BFGs as I've never used either of them. My D694s replaced the original Dunlop GrandTreks that were still on my 2002 VX 90 series from new. I got 83,000K out of the Grandtreks (mostly bitumen use), I can only hope the D694s last as long. They do handle well on road but being a light truck construction tyre they have a little firmer ride than the GrandTreks. This is probably due to them running higher pressures and having a firmer sidewall than the highway spec tyres I was running before. They have a good tread pattern without being overly agressive, they're not as chunky as the BFG T/A KO. I do mainly on-road driving so the tread pattern on the D694s suits me fine and they don't produce a lot of road noise.

Note: I have the LT spec tyre, D694s come in a Highway spec version as well (make sure you specify when ordering).

              • Thanks to the valuable information on this forum, I purchased a set of Bridgestone D694 LT265/65x17's for $309 a tyre in August for my 120 series Prado. My first choice was for the BFG ATs, however, with the supply issues BFG were facing, I did not want to be left without a replacement tyre if I ever destroyed one. I've since put the Bridgestone D694s to the test off-road and have found them to have plenty of grip on gravel and rocks. Steep, rutted and loose hill climbs weren't an issue with these tyres. They did appear to fill with mud very easily though. Overall, they're quite a good tyre on and off-road.

A number of people have asked how the Bridgestone D694s compare to BFG ATs. I used to run BFG ATs on my previous Prado so I thought I'd put my 2 cents in. The Bridgestone D694s have a lower load rating than the BFG ATs. I believe that it is this lower rating that allows the Bridgestone D694's sidewalls to bag out quite easily. This can be a good and bad thing. I found that I am now having to run much higher pressures off-road with the D694s than what I am used to as I found that I end up driving on the sidewalls....and this is with over 30psi in the tyres. You can clearly see the rubbing on the sidewall of the D694s which are up to 100mm into the sidewall and almost up to the sidewall lettering. On rough or rocky terrain, I'm used to running as low as 22psi with the BFG ATs. I can't imagine running such a low pressure with the D694s. I understand that pressures are relative and traction is about the size of the tyre footprint. I guess I'm still getting used to what pressures I should run with the D694s off-road. Also, the BFG ATs have a large section of tread which continues up the sidewall quite a bit which appear to aid in protecting the sidewall from damage. The D694s don't have this. Needless to say, I've been quite paranoide about sidewall damage on the D694. Having said all this, I have not experienced any sidewall damage so far on the D694s. Only time will tell.

These are my opinions on the two tyres and I hope this helps someone.

                  • I have had my D694's on for a couple of months now and so far I'm very happy with them. Just got back from a trip to Flinders Ranges, Gammon Ranges and Lake Eyre and they performed really well on a variety of different roads. We had some rain on a red clay type road between the Strezleki Track and Balcanoona which made the going quite slippery but considering the road was covered the whole way across with water and these are not a mud tyre, I thought they gripped quite well.
On most of the unsealed roads I had the pressure at around 28 psi, they handled the rocks and gravel well and there are no signs of any damage or chipping so overall they have performed really well so far.
