  • Nitto terra grappler tyres

It's time for new boots for the 120 and am considering Nitto Terra Grappler from Bob Jane. Buy 3 get 4 means $765 with fitting, balance disposal incl, so good savings compared to anything other than real cheap yum Cha brands and I'm not going there. Does anyone here have them and how are they?
Dealer tells me they are Japanese made by Toyo and reviews online seem to be ok but I tend not to believe all reviews as you don't know the affiliation of the reviewer with the product, however PP has always been a source of good local info so let me know your thoughts.
1997 petrol auto, 430 000km. Still going strong.
2004 petrol auto, 233 000km. Cracked dash and no help from Toyota!

I've been pretty happy with them and have a set on both our 4b's. Got about 25,000k on each of them and have been faultless so far. Have very little wear on them. A bit more road noise but grip is pretty good in the wet and seem to be holding up well offroad as well. At almost half the price of coopers I couldn't fault them so far.

a mate has them on his lux... i've looked closely and his say made in China... i'd be asking to see the made in japan on the actual units before forking out good dollars. Toyo OPAT2's are made Japan still and can be had for around 230-250 each. my 2cents is made in Japan or USA for tyres...

On my second set of Terra Grapplers and great value for money. I get offroad regularly and they wear well. They give a good footprint when aired down. Handle OK in the wet. I will check my tyres tomorrow for made in info.

Some confusion between them and their G2. Do your homework with ratings.

Toyo are about to release an RT rugged terrain. Going to an info session Next Week in Brisbane. I believe they are made in USA.

My Terra Grapplers definitely say Made in Japan. 265 70 17 I purchased crop BJ.
Did your mate buy online or from an Australian authorised dealer? What size? Which tyre?

Maybe the G2s only are made in China?

My G2's from BJ say made in Japan aswell.

Just had my brakes machined today and even the brake guy commented how decent the grip of the Tyre was during his brake tests.

recently i was looking at the nitto g3 (slightly better than the original), the bf ko2 and the yokohama geo 15

the nittos talking to some dealers mentioned hard long wearing rubber, you get good km's out of them but not the best for wet weather grip and dont have much flex in the sidewalls so if yr gonna go rock hunting in yr prado, may puncture a bit more easily

the yokohamas have the best warranty of any tyre i researched, really good and have long lasting capabilities and more suited to road though but still classed as an AT tyre,,,rated highly and a solid choice

but bob jane had a special on the bf ko2s and i was gonna buy em at $303 fitted, got home and for some reason i jump on tyresales and they had them on special fitted for $264 each (265-70-17), bought 5 plus front wheel alignment 1400, damn cheap

The only thing u need to watch out for is some come of the mould perfect and dont need much lead to balance them, the 1sts, whilst others not considered 2nds are put on a buffing machine to get them closer to round and therefore may use more lead to balance them up....just something to beware of....just check if the tread has slight scuffing to confirm

read somewhere the bfko3s are coming out in the near future, dont know if its true but perhaps something to investigate if yr heading down the bf track
