Are you serious  And I assume you dont do that much offroading then. I have buckled rims with 70 series tyres and the next set will be 75s, just to give the rims a break. Ive almost gone through my spare rims already. Sounds like you 120 guys dont like to find the vehicles limits in all terrains including rock hopping. If your worried about insurance issues as well, better stick to gravel tracks in the National Parks then eh??

From an insurance point of veiw i can drive anywhere on this continent, however if i have fitted something to my car deemed illegal by main roads dept than the insurance company deems the car un roadworthy, and yes we don't all buy 50 k prado's to go rock hopping, but i have just spent a few days enjoying my 4wd in one of the most beautiful places on earth, Fraser island, beats rock hoping any day!!! However if you look at the trip report you will notice they was some rock hopping.

Everyone has their own uses for their 4wd - the prado is an ideal long distance tourer, you use yours for rock hopping, good luck to you, good clean fun I reckon, others might not enjoy risking the possible damage of "finding the limits in all terrains" - each to their own IMHO
Wherever you go..there you are, it's just more comfortable getting there in the Prado....

Only about 27mm difference, but the maximum allowable by the RTA is 15mm...

              265/65/17 BFG A/T are 30.7" OD
              265/70/17 BFG A/T are 31.8" OD
15mm maximum allowable in Victoria also
I've received written (or at least email) confirmation from Vic Roads that Victoria has joined the "no more than + 25mm" states.

              George
I would still be sceptical - 25 mm WIDER than widest manufacturer rim but no more than 15 mm greater than largest diameter tyre.

I noticed that size too 275/65/17 is about 790mm OD.
Bridgestone do a D694 in that size and Dunlop also have one in a Grandtrek AT3

So in reality you can fit 265/75/17 tyres on, although id be ugrading the suspension first. You would need at least a 2" lift, OME gives you roughly this. Then go rock hopping.

I have them on my 120 LC.

I would have no hesitation in suggesting you go for them.

On my gps, the speedo reads 62 mph when the sat nav says 60.
So actually, if you keep the speedo to the speed limits, you should always be safe.

there is absolutely no rubbing issues at all,
On full lock either direction, or when fully loaded,
i drove to Norway with mine, and had half of Tesco's in the back, (food is hellish expensive so we stocked up Laughing )

When I had the Dunlop Grand Trek's on, it felt more "wallowy" if that makes sense.
Now it feels great on the road.
I first used them with 25 psi all round, I thought that was too low, then I upped the pressure to 30 psi all round,
Now I am set on 2.5 bar all round, which I think is about 37 psi, (not sure) but it feels better.
Before I put them on, I had in my mind that they would give a very hard ride
                          Well, actually not.
                          the ride is just great.
I would expect over 50,000 miles from a set of BGF A/T.

The rules have been changed, however the Vic Roads website is still showing the 2003 policy.

To be absolutely sure - and in dealing with insurance companies it always pays to be sure! - contact Vic Roads via the "feedback and enquiries" link on their website (http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Abo ... uiries.htm)

I haven't changed to "70" profile tyres yet, however when I do (and the business case has already been signed off by the Finance Minister  ) I'll send a copy of my response from Vic Roads to my insurance company, and keep a copy in my vehicle.
