  • Goodyear Wrangler - Silent Armour

Spoke to my local Goodyear rep today and he said that these aren't too far away from being introduced to the country in 265/65/17.

Apparently they are available in the US of A and the first shipment is already on its way to Aus.

Has anyone heard the same or know if it is already apperaring on our market?

Response was that the tyres will not be here until sometime in Feburary......no good for me that needs them before Christmas for the move to the Territory.

            The revo IS the 694.

Do a search on the other forum for Cooper ATR blowout / delaminating etc. Seems to have happened a bit.

A mates delaminated and took of everything plastic (Wheel arch guards, flare, door trim, door rubber  and paint) never been anywhere severe offroad (Dire tracks only) and was doing 90 towing a van as he always does, never goes over 100.

There is quite a few threads on it at 120's cool group.

                    Silent armours

Have silent armours on my ute(starts with P ends with rol). With all the gear in the back plus the XL sevice body all up weight is over 3.2 Tonne. These are easily the best 4x4 tyre ever. Done 45 thousand klicks, only 50% wear . Great on and off road capability. Will buy again , shame they weren't available in 17" when the Prado needed new tyres last year.
150 Vx D4D, Deluxe Arb bar, winch, Hayman Reece Towbar, UBP, P3 Tekonsha, 'n stuff.

I recommend starting with a very big fire"-Vince.

                      Wranglers

Maybe that was a little rash but this is my criteria.
-Excellent tarmac road holding wet and dry including braking performance.
-Excellent all round off road ability, mud, sand, stones and rock -dont know about snow or ice, havent seen much of it in Nthn NSW.
                      -Longevity, see my previous post.
-Puncture resistant, ute spends most of its life on, in and around building sites and a lot of off-road adventure. Have not staked a side wall yet. I have had to plug a few holes due to nails and screws, I think three.
                      -Reasonably priced.
                      -Acceptable road noise.
-Depth of tread and tread design.

I am not saying that I am an expert on tyres but when we are not at work we are camping, towing a caravan or car trailer or racing our Group Nc '67 Mini Cooper S. I am particular with the selection and maintenance of my tyres, racing cars has taught me a lot about vehicle dynamics and control. For me the Wranglers have been a stand out. Tried Coopers, Michelins, Dunlops even ran the Wrangler MTRs on the ute before I bought this set of Silent Armour ATRs. I will put another set on the work utes without hesitation. I am tempted to try the Pirelli Scorps on the Prado though.

Interesting to hear your comments on the Wrangler Silent Armour ATs. I bought a 2005 Prado with Goodyear Silent Armours 265/70R17's already fitted. They are due for replacement and I have been looking around for the best tyre. I have only driven 7-8k on these tyres and don't know how far the previous driver took them, so can't really comment on these. However they do handle well on the black-top and also on the off-road tracks I have taken them on. I have been tossing around the Goodyears or BFG A/T (my spare is a BFG). :?

my brother just chucked a set of silent armours on his prado, he seems pretty happy with them though they were his 2nd choice , he was after MTR's to begin with, but sold out. been on some corrugated roads/ bush tracks and beach work they seem allright, and also was told they wear very well.

                            Hi Malcar,
I was up in Bloomfield yesterday, talked to one of the locals he has the Goodyear Silent Armour tyres fitted to his 100 series Landcruiser and lickes them.
This truck spends most of its time up in Bloomfield and the tread lugs and side walls looked pretty good (30,000km's) considering all the granite rocks and boulders you have to encounter in some steep inclines in that part of the country, let alone the depth of mud in some areas.

Just a bit more info hope this helps.
