I run them in 265/75 R16 on my 95 series and they are IMO fantastic all rounders. Quiet, smooth and grippy on the road and sensational on the soft WA beaches too. Haven't had them in the mud but they have handled nasty rocky off-track conditions up along the Zytdorp cliffs well.

On the same vehicle I have run Kelly AT's and Cooper ATR's and the goodyear silent armours leave them all for dead.

      Cheers

Re: Goodyear Wrangler - Silent Armour

We just put 5 Silent Armours on our Grande, mainly because we didn't want to go to the 70 profile (would have put Micky T's on). So far after about 1500km we have had no issues with them, have had them in light mud and had no issues (big improvement on the Dunlops). Was a little surprised to find that the 265/65/17 came in a 5 rib as opposed to the 4 rib on their website???

Either way we are happy with them and at $300 each they were a pretty good price.

Re: Goodyear Wrangler - Silent Armour

Sales guy at Beaurepaires tried to talk me into the 70 series Silent Armour over the 65 series, as the 65 series is made in Indonesia. Then went on to quote me $375 a tyre so I left in a hurry. True or false on the country of origin, I don't know. Could explain the difference though.

Well have the Silent Armours for severial months they are wearing well, about 10k of that 5k round trip via lake eyre oodnadatta.hardly a scratch.meet some people driving a prado same type of camper same km but had coopers looked like they had been attacked by fredy crugger and they ripped side wall out of one on the Oodnadatta.I can thank this forum as I would have purchased coopers. Also another car with us had a new set of 18in yoko ATS they were faultless as well.
the big plus with the Wranglers is they are great on the road even in the wet and minimal noice.

I got the same spiel today from a local Beaurepairs store. The 70 series is tried/tested and produced in the states, while the 65 series is produced in Asia. Construction is supposed to be identical, however the tread pattern is less aggressive on the 65.

For approx. $310 per tyre, you get the tyres rotated and balanced every 10,000km, and lifetime warranty on the tyres.

The guy I spoke to put me on hold while he found out the legalities of putting on the 70 series, and it calculated to something like 25mm increase which is illegal (in QLD?). I'm tempted to go for the 65 series.

These were tested a few years ago in 4wd action and came out way down the list, their is better tyres than these around, bridgie, pirelli just to name a few.

Just hit 40,000km on my Silent Armours, hardly notice they are wearing! I religiously rotate them (including the spare) every 10,000km.

I think you will find that the 65 series are passenger rated & the 70 series are light truck, the 70 series has deeper tread & stronger sidewalls, I had the 70 series on my last vehicle & were very impressed with them, much better than my cooper st 265/70/17, I will be putting the goodyears on once the coopers wear out or fall apart
