Re: Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 rib

Got the 4 ribs fitted a couple of days ago , pretty happy with them ... they look more like muddys 8)

We had rain here today and they did as well as my pervious tyres (Cooper ATR) , i did a few E-stops on a secluded road with no problems, slight "whirr" at 70km+ with the windows open ... nothing that concerns me in the least.

      Just a report on the speedo readings , checked with my GPS - it was spot on with the 65 series tyres , speedo is now with 70 series tyres - 42 @ 40, 62 @ 60 , 83 @ 80 , so probably about 3-4kph out at 100kph .

Re: Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 rib

Been running around on the blacktop and harder racks for a while and very pleased with their performance

However, took a trailer down the beach (medium to soft sand) last weekend and boy did I struggle on 18 psi, dropped down to 12 psi to get the sidewalls to bag out

So do I run the risk of pulling a tyre off the rim by running at 12 psi and taking it steady with no hoon style manouvres?

12 should be fine so long as you don't turn sharp. Went down to Beachport in South Australia for the long weekend and had mine done to about the same one day when we went south through Cunundra. A fella there had his STTs down to 9psi cold but they warmed up to about 10 or 11. When talking PSI it's good to distingush between cold and hot. Cold is first thing in the morning but drive on this for about half an hour then this is hot and you will find that it's probably raised upto about 4PSI so 16 quickly becomes 20.

            G'day all,
I have recently purchased a set of M/T ATZ 4 rib from Fourbys at Moorooka, gotta say, very impressed. They handle well, acceptable noise level from them, and they look good. As up to now i have only played a little bit on the dirt with them so no real "offroad test" yet. i have a maximum of 60g weight on one wheel and less on the others, so balance is perfect, wheel alignment is spot on (also done at Fourbys). The guys there know there stuff. Thanks Ryan.

Welcome to the Mickey T 4 rib group, you wont be disappointed. A mate and I fitted a set each before we did some failrly extreme rocky and steep off road stuff down at Wave Hill Station and the tyres were awesome. We did all the inland tracks at Teewah Beach a couple of weekends ago and they performed equally as well on sand, great all round choice of tyres.

so how noisey are these 4 ribs :?: are they as noisey as cooper st, had these on a 100 series, ended up putting them on a set of steelys and went back to atrs on the alloys and is there much difference between 4 & 5 ribs, or does anyone think the new cooper ltz would be a better tyre for a 70% on road 30% off, any takers :?:

The ATZ 4 Ribs are a great tyre. I'm also considering fitting these in the near future.
I've seen them in action on different vehicles, and they perform very well and aren't too noisy at all for your Prado, they're relatively quite on the road.
At the recent 4x4 show back in March, they were the same price as the Cooper ST's @ $380 a corner.
For the cheapest place in Brisbane for Mickey Thompson's, I've heard that ACE Tyres is the go.
I know someone who picked these tyres up for around $360 a corner for the size 265/70/17 . Their details are below if you want to give them a call.

I paid $365 a corner at Tyres & More at Geebung. I think all of their outlets sell them and they were cheaper than Ace Tyres and everyone else when I went shopping.

My ATZs have around 40K on them now. In that time, I have not treated them kindly at all.

Since new, the noise has never been a problem. It's still easy to have a quiet conversation without feeling like you're competing with the tyre noise... unlike some other brands .

The ATZ 4-Rib have been a brilliant tyre for my money.

                                Cheers,
