  • Re: Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 rib

    hi guys,
Has any one had supply issues in Perth recently? I have had trouble getting my hands on 1. Seems the only stock is in the east. The price is also a bit steep at $400 even for one

If there is stock in the country it should not matter where it is. I believe they are imported to Queensland then distributed from there. When I got mine, I got the last four in the country and had to wait a couple of weeks for my spare.

As for price I was told $396 ish on the phone but when I committed with cash they did it for 374 or 376 can not remember exactly.

      • New stock!!

I'm led to believe a new shipment of tyres arriving early next week; if anyone in the Perth area is looking at getting a set let me know asap - hoping we might be able to get together and increase buying power...

        • I ordered 6 tyres about 5 - 6 weeks ago. I had also been advised that they will be arriving in Perth next week. Should be fitted soon. (can't wait...)
I get the impression mind you that there isn't a great deal of movement in price

          • Got the new ATZ 4 ribs this week. I was just wondering what road pressures were recommended by the dealers when other members purchased their tyres. Mine have stated that they were advised by Mickey T's to run them between 28 - 32 psi (unloaded)for optimum wear, ride, handling etc. I was taken aback with such low pressures and they confirmed so were they but now they also run their own ATZ's at these pressures and found to be best pressures.

Would love to hear other views or comments.

            Thanks

            • Those pressures sound low to me Steve, would have thought 35(ish) was the go. I have the ATZ 5 ribs and they feel the best at around 36.

Hmm, In would suggest he has just read the tyre placard on the car which applies to passanger rated tyres for the 265/65 series. From memory these read 190kpa which is about 28psi. You have a bigger heavier square sholdered tyre. Run them at 36 and you will prolong the life of the tyre. Running at 28 will wear the shoulders and you wont get 80000kms form them. You will have a more comfotable ride with 28 than 36 but I bet oyu wouldn't even notice unless someone was to point it out to you. You will get better fuel economy at a higher pressure than lower as the lower pressure will see the tyre drag slightly.

                • Steve the the MT tyre pressure guide I was provided with my new acquisitions (earlier this week) indicated 32-38psi on the black stuff & 38-40 if carrying a load.
Was just thinking today the 35 the shop put in feels slightly high so might try bit lower..sexy tyre - hope your loving yours as much as I do mine..

                  • Has anyone bought or priced these lately in SA? My MT 5 ribs are about to expire and thought the 4 ribs look like the go for next time.
I priced the 4 ribs a few months ago at Tyre Power at Seaford, they quoted $392 per tyre which i think is just the list price.
If anyone has had a better quote i would be keen to hear it.

                    Thanks, Justin

                    • Justo, I was looking at possibly getting a couple of extras as I'm going to steal my inlaws camper trailer (that may now be on hold) and got in contact with Bob Jane in the city. They said about the same price you quoted. I then said I had picked up my current ones for about $350 and they said they should be able to match. So I guess shop around and put some pressure on you to give you the best price they can. Tell them you are looking elsewhere and will buy from them if they give you a good price. It's not about screwing the distrubutor but when you look at buying an Yanky tyre where the price was set over two years back and the exchange rate should see a price drop then I feel we are being blantantly ripped off.

                      • My thoughts exactly with the current exchange rate, I was thinking now would be the ideal time to be looking at tyres made in the US.

                        • Thanks for the couple comments re tyre pressures. Always interesting getting the differing opinions. I do love the look of these tyres although I must
admit they are noisier than I expected ( although I am used to highway tyres). Took them up to Wilbinga today and at 18psi they performed
extremely well in the sand. I felt like they did better than my previous highway tyres - which are meant to better in sand............
