Just got a call back from the tyre shop and he said he just spoke to BFG's head office over East and they say that they don't even make them in that size???? Go figure?

Just did some ringing around and while talking to the dealer they rang Head Office and were told that yes the 265/70/17 is made it does not come to Australia and the only 17" that is available is the 285/70/17. Go figure.

After running these, the MTRs, the STTs and the MTZs my next set will be MTZs again, they are imo a much better allround tyre the STT would be my next pick and the KM2 would follow in 4th after the Goodyear MTRs.

When I was looking into them, a few shops said that they didn't come in the size that I wanted.

I mentioned that they don't make them in the old type of BFG's but do in the KM2's

One fella mentioned that they where told to sell all the old type first.

Bit like buying milk in a shop. Put the fresh stuff at the back, or maybe they really haven't got any in the 265-70-17!

          cheers

Well the BFG Ozi website certainly has them listed as a 265/70/17 and after having so much success with the BFG AT's I'd love to give these puppies a run when I change tyres.

Now to see if I can find then anywhere ...............

              Cheers

When you find them let me know as I have just scored a set of steel GXL wheels and would like to throw the muddies on these and keep my alloy wheels/BFG atrs for general use. Young bloke at work just bought a GX and has ordered a set of alloys from Tempe wheels & tyrs.

Off the mud terrain topic a bit, but the BFG Website does not acknowledge existence of the 265/65/17 All Terrain either.

Yet plenty of people seem to be buying them. Maybe they have'nt done a stocktake for a while, LOL.

Just speaking to a local BFG Dealer; they are not sure why the 265/70/R17 have not been bought out already
in Australia, as there is a big market for this particular size they have had a lot of people asking,(i suppose that means us PPers as well )
He is going to speak with the BFG rep this afternoon as to why they are listed but not available to us yet ( this topic has been up for quite some months now!!!), and if it is possible to bring a few sets out from the states with the other orders............... wont hold my breath but will see what comes up....

I am at the end of life of my BFG A/t's, so looking to purchase a new set in the coming weeks. My wife was none too pleased at my decision go with A/T's last time around (We've only ever had M/T's and apparently I went soft in my old age with the decision not to stick with them ops: ).

Has anyone had success with the m/t pattern?

Hi all, looking at the size list has anyone considered running the 255/80/17 as an offroad set for greater ground clearance. More importantly does anyone know if there is enough clearance to actually fit these if you have an OME lift or equivalent.

Double_D is looking at doing this with a 255/85/16, check out this thread here:

                          Apart from the legal issues;

On the factory rim/off set they will hit the body mount, sway bar and you'll be up for some trimming around the mud guard.
They will also bottom out in the wheel arch under suspension compression.

                            That's correct Mick,

I'm looking at 16x7 Dymanic rims with a P28 offset which will fit the tyre in the wells and clear the upper control arm. I'm testing the rims out this weekend to make sure they don't hit the front brake calipers (i've had these grinded). As you mentioned there will be a couple of issues such as scrubbing in the front and rear under comperssion. Check out this pic under full compression... not sure if there is another inch free either side of this wheel.... and i'm running 265/70R17

Its going to be real tight... I am installing some coil spacers so this may help a little. The next problem will be in the front when i turn to full lock,,, once again it will be very close if not rub slightly on the body mount. I'm hitting the tracks this weekend to see how much front end flex i have with the sway bar out and if this will impact before i buy the 255's.

BTW my current suspension measures 805mm in the front and 810mm in the rear.

                            I'll keep you posted.

                              Re: Mud-Terrain T/A KM2

I spent a few hours at a tyre shop today and tried on the dymanics which DO NOT FIT.... absolutly no way will a 16x7 or 16x8 rim fit on a prado no matter how much grinding you do. They had some 80 series landcruiser 16x8 0 offset which just fitted after grinding. I got them to put on a BFG 285/75R16 to test and it fitted perfectly. The sidewall pertruded out a bit, but the tred was just under the flare. At full lock both ways no rubbing at all. Under compression (swaybar fitted) no problems. Without swaybar it might just touch very slightly, but not enough to be concered with.

I bought 4 rims and i'm sourcing another 16x8 landcruiser rim at the present.. I will get these painted black...should look the part. As for the tyres, I've gone back to buying the 285/75R16 KM2. The 255's are a tad higher, but don't give the stability or lateral grip of the 285. I'll probably be a couple of weeks away from completing this project - pics to come soon.

                                Any updates?

Was it just the Dynamic Rim and its design that didnt allow the fit or you needed a zero offset 16x8 with some caliper grinding to fit it?

Am considering fitting some prado brakes to my hilux so was wondering exactly where and how much did you grind off the caliper.

                                Thanks,
