Re: How many Km r you getting out of ya rubber

Wow, you guys are impressive. I got 7k from a Cooper ATR 265/65/17 after staking it on the Old Coach Road in WA and replaced it at Ceduna. I then got 23k from another 2 driving from Perth to Sydney, Cape York, and Mt Isa. I changed one at Adel's Grove and the other just outside Mt Isa. The Cooper distributor at Mt Isa said that he couldn't plug them because the rims had worn the inside of the walls to the belts and the tyres were full of "tyre dust". He seemed to think that either a slow leak or running with pressures too low caused the alloys to plane inside the tyres. He also said that the ATRs were not too good on the shale roads in the "outback" and recommended Cooper STs, followed by BFGs, then the ATRs. So I now have 2 BFGs as spares waiting for the Coopers to run their course.

Re: How many Km r you getting out of ya rubber

      Hi guys

69,000 on the original Grandtreks and there was probably another 5000 left. Changed them because of the increasing risk of a puncture from the Harissia Cactus that is all over our farm. I'm forever repairing motor bike, ute and even tractor tyres and don't want the hassle of having to do this on a Sunday afternoon just before I drive back to Brisbane. Now have Bridgestone LT AT 265/65 R17 and hope they last at least as well. I mainly travel on bitumen and do a lot of towing. Bridgestones are only marginally noisier but I think I have noticed nearly an extra litre/100km. My pet gripe is that despite repeated requests I could never get Toyota (dealer that is) to rotate the spare when they allegedly rotated and balanced the tyres at the scheduled services. So now I have a 3 year old never used Grandtrek as a spare and it will probably be 6 years old before I get rid of it.

We used 5 tyre rotate, balanced and alined 20-30km. Tyres lasted 115000 km. This included towing a caravan bris - cairns, camper trailer bris - tassie and a Simpson crossing. Only failure was on fast gravel plenty hwy when 112000 old. This works out at 23000 km per tyre so if you used 4 tyres would be 92000km.
        Will be using BFG again.

                Buzzdog,

I'm running a set of 5 the older style Wrangler MTR in 265x70x17 (they changed the tread pattern and some of the rubber components last year) sometime and have so far clocked up nearly 60k on them with maybe another 10k or at a stretch out to close to 70k before i am gonna change them, i rotate every 5k, i have found them to be good allrounder(had a set on my previuos hilux in 32inch). noisier on the road than grandtreks but hey they are more aggressive. other guys up here have been running the mizkey thompson MTZ in the same size and seem impressed also, try DARWIN4x4.NET there are a couple of guys running prados with MTZ's on them there. cheers mate.

Well I have just got 39000kms out of the Dunlop Grandtreks they have probably another 5,000kms in them but their roadholding ability in our wet weather and puncture resistance are shocking and have ordered 5 265x65xR17 BFG AT's from JAX Quickfit.

I got 70k kms out of my grandtreks, which am quite impressed with. They were due for a change at about 65k kms, but I was slack because I live in the middle of no where. I've gone to Bridgestone D694LT's which I'm happy with so far.

I managed 89800km out of the original Grandtrek's. While waiting for my BFG AT's to arrive i got my one and only puncture. (They arrived the next day!!)
Pretty happy with the mileage (mainly highway driving) but got bogged many a time. Can't wait to get the BFG's off-road!

So far i've got 80k out of my 265/70 BFG AT's. Probably another 20k left in them atleast. Run them at about 42psi, but have alot of straight driving to and from work. Not much cornering!
