    Andrew,

Would you be happy to part with the measurements and gauge of the steel? I would be able to knock one up and add it to my recovery bag.

      Andrew,
Any chance of adding this bead breaker to your line of 4x4 accessories? I have a feeling you're way ahead of me

        It seemed to work well.
how about refitting? do you need stored air pressure? or os 150l/min ok?
also ive heard an egg will do the job of the thick soapy solution.

personally never had to try either.

Mine has 10mm base and 70 x 6 Flatbar on the tounge, welded at about 70 degrees, tounge is also curved to approx curve of the wheel. 10mm for the base is overkill, I probably used that because thats what I had lying around, I would use 6mm all round next time.

I don't know about being ahead of you, but yes I could make these if people wanted them. Not sure on exact cost as I don't know powdercoating costs. I would expect I could do them for around the $35-$40 mark if a few people wanted them.

Let me know if anyone else is interested, the more I make the more economical it is.

When changing tyres too much lubricant is not possible, not sure about the egg, might work, but I found dish detergent and water is great, something that most of us are likely to have if camping.

As for reinflating, in the video I just pumped them up with my ARB compressor, no tank. If you need more volume then I would use another tyre, probably the spare as its the most convenient as a compressor tank.
Remove the valve from the tyre to be inflated, and place a 6mm air hose over it. Pump the spare up to a high pressure, 60-70psi, then remove the valve from the spare and quickly put the 6mm air hose over the valve outlet. You now have full flow at 60-70psi which should do the job most of the time.

There are a number of other possibilities if you have trouble popping the bead back on, putting a ratchet strap around the tyre is NOT one I would recommend though.

          Cheers Andrew

                        just putting it out there......

would it work if ya put ya flat, on flat ground, and drove the car up on to the the side wall of the flat tyre and use the cars weight to apply the downwards pressure to break the bead? surely withl the aid of rocks ,, natural terrain and imagination .. whats your thoughts.. with the valve removed... i can see someone flipping the tyre into the side of the vechile,,,, lol..

so i looked it up on you tube and sure enuff...

I love that bead breaker idea, been in the tyre game for 17 years and cant count how many tyres i have seen ruined by slide hammer type bead breakers that people don't know how to use

Another tip if you have trouble getting the beads to start to seal when re inflating is to bounce the tyre on the ground as you are pumping are into it (i have done it heaps of times), the volume of air inside the tyre is usually enough to pop the sidewall out enough to start a seal

Looks like a bit of interest; so I will get some steel ordered and get a few bead breakers made. I'll start a thread when I get a firm price and delivery ETA, hopefully only a couple of weeks.

                            Cheers Andrew

Thanks Andrew, I like the fact it's pretty compact, and makes use of items you already have, being jack and towbar.
