Will 285/70R17 Fit?

Hey guys first post so i apologize if this has been covered before but my 2008 Prado has the factory steel 17 inch rims and i was wondering if the 285/70R17 rubber will fit without any other issues? I will be lifting it 2 inches so if i need to get some new UCA's or something id rather do it in one go as i will be doing it myself, thanks again.

33 inch tyres will fit when you have a 2 inch lift. Well if they’re all-terrains they will. I bought my 120 Prado recently with new 33 inch AT’s fitted (265/75 R17) and they don’t scrub out. To me they look a bit awkwardly big for the car though. I’m going to put them up for sale on PP in a week or so at a good price. I’m getting 32 inch MT’s fitted instead. If you got 33inch MT’s fitted it may be a different story though because the raised tread blocks on them when they’re new make them nearly as large as a 34 inch tyre until they wear down a bit. The big MT’s may touch your chassis rail at full lock.

I have the same question, but I don't have the lift and I would like to get a/t not muddies. would they fit without the lift?

33 inch AT’s with no lift? I honestly don’t know. I couldn’t answer that one. In the rear they definitely will for normal road use, but don’t know the repercussions of fully articulated rear suspension when off-road. I’d like to say no to them fitting in the front, but cannot say for sure.

33" tyres in a 265/75R17 size are the same width as standard, so they should fit with the standard +30 offset Prado rims.

33" tyres in a 285/70R17 size will NOT work if fitted to the standard +30 offset Prado rims, these will rub on the standard UCAs with suspension movement.

For a 285/70R17 tyre I recommend an offset of between +6 and +10, down to +5 is legal in NSW and I've seen FJ Cruiser rims with 285s so up to +15 should also work.

Hey Peterpilot, what are your thoughts on the Pirellis?

I rate them. A bit noisier than ATs on the highway but far quieter than MTZs, I don’t notice the hum at all anymore. Good on-road and great off-road. Recently drove on wet and snow covered bitumen in the Blue Mountains and they never gave me cause for concern.

On a recent off-road trip, they stood up to rocks far better than the BFG MT on another vehicle that suffered cuts, chips and tread block damage. The Pirellis still look new and haven’t missed a beat after 20,000km
