    Hi Fazza
Yes I think the AT20s that Whiteman, Jacto and I have are 'special' as we seem to be the chosen few who get a good run from them. I witnessed many destroyed tyres on other vehicles whilst our our trip. I was really happy to come out unscathed and still be driving on them now.

The photos may be a while yet. Just can't seem to get back on track after the 5 weeks off. I met up with the Chippy clan just north of Tennant Creek and will try to post a few pics over the long weekend.
    Cheers

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I was searching to see what people had been getting out of their Grandtreks. I am at 30,000 and they still look very good certainly look like they have another 20 or 30 thousand in them.

I am just a little bewildered at the extreme differences in wear that people seem to be experiencing.

I have taken mine over some pretty bad roads and tracks and they are holding up nicely. I will probably go D694's next but I have not had any problems with the Grandtreks so far. i do air up and down as needed so maybe that is the secrete to getting the most out of them.

I'm with you on this. I have 35k klms on mine and thats 70% trips/ off road. The tread is approx 50% worn. I have even wear across all tyres and rotate them every 10k.

I've had 1 punture through the tread while following part of the Trancontinental Railway. They have been through Sunset NP and northern part of the Border track, Googs track and various SA outback roads, 5 weeks through Tasmania including the west coast/ Balfour track area.

No they are not fantastic on dirt and hopeless in slippery/ muddy conditions, but they are good on road and hardly the horror story that some have made out. For a HT they perform as well as any other brand of HT tyre.

Worth keeping for day to day driving duties if you can afford a second set of dedicated off road tyres.

          Ditto Mav & MickL

I have 94,000km on mine and at least another 20k on them I reckon. About 70% of the kms has been on the highway. I have done some hard work with them such as a 14k trip towing a 2 tonne off road van via the Gibb River Rd, Tanami etc.

I also air down when on dirt roads and pay a lot of attention to wheel placement. Each tyre (including the spare) is rotated every 10k. These are done in the cross pattern as recommended in the Prado manual.

          Cheers

How do ya reckon Grandtreks would go doing this sort of work ?

Not too flash, because I have tried..
I tried too when we were in Tas last year, lucky there were locals around to get us out as I got stuck in the one spot on the whole friggin island with no tree within reach to winch off.

They are a highway tire after all.

Jeez Matt, the tyres on the vehicle would have to have more tread than the spare  :P

Our original Grandtreks are just about gone at 34k, they wore badly on the outer rims. This may be due to the range / twisty bit it drives up and down each day though.

                  Dunplope GrandCraps

                  Fox Mate

Don't mentuion neither the road nor the rig, the GrandCraps is what it is Grandcraps.

My Replacement Pirillie Scopion had 30K on them and thety are barely 10% gone , same rig same alignment settings

Here is a little secrete relayed to me by one Toyota Maintenance crew here in Dubai : Toyota is still using the same settings of the LC90 and applies it into the LC120 !

That's why if you raed my other thread "Readings from an alignment job" the agent with his toyota calibrated device sayed OK on a toe-in reading of 1.2 while the rality is that I did mine as per Fazza's recommendation and maintained a toe-in at 0.3 (as close to 0 as possible)

And am checking the Toe-in Every 4 months and the car litterally "opens up the toe to 0.9" and the tyre man retrievs teh 0.3 again and by doing this I keep my tyres outer edges nice and Deep

Change the tyres to something more reliable and always make sure that Toe-in Readings is as close to 0.0 as possible

                  That's my two cents worth

                  Cheers

Sounds like the Grandcraps had a teaspoon of cement and hardened the &*$% up.
Still not good fourby tyres though.

I've asked this question in another thread but it's probably better suited here

What tyre pressures do you guys use on

                      Gravel,
                      Sand,
                      Highway?

And when on sand I believe you can go down to 17psi if neccessary, what is a good pressure for say on the beach at Straddie or Moreton? and if you do need to drop to 17psi how much slower should you be going?

and reading the last few posts,

What is "Toe In" and what settings other than toe-in close to 0.0, should i get the tyre guys to do it to when i take it in for an alignment?

All answers appreciated off to moreton in 2 weeks time - 2nd time off road and first time in the new prado..... can't wait.
