    G'Day Grandeman,
There is no more noise than I found on the ATR's.
The Micky T' ATZ's have a continuous tread of rubber around centre of tyre which I feel offsets the chunky tread on the sides. It also improves the wet road handling which till now has not been a problem. I run them at 40psi on road which is recommended. Deep tread provides a good ride.

      Like they need an excuse!!!

The Mickey T's look like a great tyre, Matt.

Darren from ATS swears by Procomp AT's? Have you considered them?

I think both Procomp and Mickey T are owned by Coopers, aren't they?

        New tyres fitted this morning

I just replaced the stocko Dunlops on my Grande at a touch over 50k. To be honest they should have been replaced at least 2k ago, but I was determined to squeeze 50 out of them. Outside edge of both fronts were virtually bald, even though they have been (allegedly, I'll be checking from now on) rotated at each service.

I went for D694's after reading various posts here, and advice from a colleague who just crossed the Simpson on them. My only concern was road noise, but first indications are all good. I had to turn the stereo almost off to notice them at 60kph.

          Fugazi,

I did exactly the same thing today. The Bridgestone dealer made it clear that the tyre pressure needs to be 45 PSI on the road to get the maximum distance from the tyres.

Seems high, but I'll give it ago.

I always ran the Dunlops at 36 PSI and got 72,000 out of them.

45 psi would be as rough as, i run 36-38psi on the Bridgies, it is a good ride.

              Hutch,

It is not too bad if I dial down the suspension setting.

I'm wondering what to do with a second set to play with.
I've had MTR's in the past and they are great in the high country and rocks, not crash hot in the mud and OK on the road.
                  What about MTZ's
how noisy are they on the road and what is their grip like on the road?

I want to use them for a madigans crossing this year as well as around here, so I am wondering if I can stand them for 6000k's

They have a better load rating and speed rating than the mtr's

                  Any thoughts?

I have them on my Prado and they road noise is livable.

I have gotten used to them but as far as before goes the tyres that were on it before then were noisy but not overly if that makes any sense...

On the road they are good in the wet which is something i cannot say about most mud tyres.

I have done about 25000 on them and i will be replacing them with same and if i get another set of wheels i might put the ATZ or FC-II on them

                    In summary i love them!!!!

If the wife can live with them on the car everyday, they cant be that noisy.

Hi Guys, I am awaiting delivery of the new Prado GXL in March, and it is time to start thinking about my tyres. I'm going to be 80% road, 20% offroad, but the offroad portion needs to be pretty good as I intend to do some good medium to hard day/weekend trips later on this year. So Im looking at purchasing new tyres and selling the brand spanking Grandtech that come with the vehicle to offset the price.

Q1. Whats the recommendation/consensus of tyre? - Ive been looking at Coopers and Micky Ts, but not convinced yet.

Q2. Do I go with new steel rims or stay with the original rims?

Q3. Would you recommend staying with Dunlop GTs for normal weekday driving and fitting a new set of weekend tyres/wheels when going out and about in SEQld.

Q4. Who wants some new Dunlop GTs? Open to offers.

I'm in Nth Brisbane, so I suppose a Brisvegas Pradopointer who is looking for new GTs would be ideal.

                        Looking for some advice here.

For the sort of road / off road use you are expecting .... this would be the best choice. If you can afford to get a set of rims and play tyres you get the very best of both worlds.

If not .. then life becomes more of a compromise. As much as I would love a set of STTs or MTZs .... my day to day road driving would kill them long before I got to properly enjoy them. I'll probably wind up with something like the BFG AT's

                          Cheers

                            Hi D4D-GXL,

Just remember though, that currently 265/70/17 ie The BFG ATs (which I want as well) are illegal in QLD (can only legally incrase rolling circumference by 15mm currently). The best I can find is the new General Grabber AT2, very similar to the BFG AT tread pattern in the 265/65/17...... $280 each for 5 from Tyrepower Morningside.....

Cooper ATR are also available in the 265/65/17 but the tread does not look agresive enough for me. As I can't be bothered changing tyres from a midweek to weekend tyre, sI am looking for an AT as well.

Will be fitting the General Grabber (another test puppet) in the next month or so and will report back my thoughts....

                            Cheers
                            Brett
