Tail Shaft Lag/Vibration During take off

Hi All,

Just wondering whether anyone else in a 3 door ZR (auto); has noticed and tail shaft lag during takeoff or creeping forward after a complete stop.

Symptoms:

Drive normally at 60kp/h coming to a gradual stop on a normal surface, car completely stopped. Gently release the brake a slight smooth vibration seems to come from the gear box or tail shaft. If you take off normally (meaning light goes green and immediate acceleration is applied) the problem is not noticed.

Hi G, Thanks for bringing it up I have the SX version and mine does the same thing and I was wondering if this is common for a swb? Otherwise on the highway it is fantastic and there is no shudder. Thanks, Rick

Hi Rick,

Took the car in yesterday to be checked for this and a couple of other minor issues, they claim that they upgraded the ECU software... still doing the same thing though. I mentioned it on my first check up and they said the same thing (different dealer).

Otherwise awesome car!

Could this problem have anything to do with the Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) feature on the automatic?

I wonder whether you are experiecing the drive shaft thump/binding issue common in the 5 door 120 (and now) the 150 series?

All fixed, after 3 trips to Toyota...

Issue: Not enough grease in rear drive train (as mentioned in the other post)

Recommendation : Ask Toyota to grease at every service, you can check that they have done it by cleaning the rear diff nipples prior to your service; then checking after. :shock:
