Ok my damage is done. Ended up going with tjm awning because everything else had a wait. Also got rhino roof racks, outback drawers with built in slide, x-ray 50w hid's. I have really been happy with the guys at tjm Perth. Have delt with all the salesmen and are all the same. They really help with your little thing like wanting 2 switches (one for led ring) for the spots. Also installing my car fridge at no extra cost including mounts and all. Perth tjm Is my only 4x4 shop choice now. If they don't stock it they will get it.

I wouldn't use it without poles unless there was absolutely no wind, and even then I would be uneasy about it. I guess it could be used with poles but without tie down ropes in no wind.

Yeah, I like the idea of the awning systems, but I'm not 100% sold on them.They'd be great for quick setups and beautiful sunny days... but when camped up for multiple days in bad weather I wouldn't trust any awning system at all... especially if it were to fail and have the poles fly around and put dents, holes and scratches on the car. I've been in situations where my heavy duty tarp held down by steel poles, 30cm sand pegs and 40cm steel pegs in very firm ground was torn from the ground. The wind was so violently powerful that when one corner of the tarp blew over, the steel corner peg was catapaulted over to the other side of the tarp and punched a hole through it (and this was a very thick tarp). So I can only urge people to be aware of the dangers an awning poses on your Prados or more importantly yourself and your loved ones. Having said that, I still want one! I saw a foxwing at the 4x4 show and it looked awesome.

Here's a question for all you awning owners... what do you find economy like with the awning attached? I've noticed a fuel increase from just having the maxtrax secured across the roof bars.

The ARB/Bushranger/TJM awning is good but built to a price. I have had to replace one of the poles and swivel brackets which go warped when the wind gusted up while I was packing it up.

Schniff, where did you get replacement swivel brackets? Been trying to find them everywhere for something I'm making.

This photo is in Kinchega National Park last year we got rained in for three days with one night of 10 hours of 40 knot plus winds. We had the Foxwing up with 4 guys ropes on and the Oztent with every peg and rope in. The wind was that strong that it was bending the aluminium frame in the Oztent, I was waiting for the Foxwing to go but it hung in with no damage at all. The only thing was that there is a pocket that goes around the edge of the Foxwing that in big wet weather events actually gathers a bit of water.
