  • Uniden UH 7760NB UHF CB Mobile + AT870 spring-mounted antenna

    Hi all,

I see most ppl here have gone for the GME TX3340 with the controls on the handset.

I saw the Uniden version at the caravan show - the GME and Unidens were side by side so physical comparisons were easy. The Uniden is smaller, so tucking in under the dash and sitting on transmission tunnel, as most ppl here have done with GME, is quite simple.

The Uniden has the speaker in the handset, which appears to me to be an advantage.
The over-the-top prices the showmen were asking were $399 Uniden and $499 GME - both included an aerial worth abt $90~$100. There are better prices on line.

    My question:
Has anyone established a technical reason why one is better than the other?
Is there a performance advantage one has compared to the other?

I'm aware there is a "holden vs ford" type rivalry between these brands but that doesn't interest me.

The Uniden has a price and physical size and speaker advantage that attracts me.

I know the GME has "user programmable channels" (Scanner Function) not sure about the new Uniden unit, but from what the website shows looks pretty good.

The UH7760NB is not a bad radio however I do prefer the UH7700NB which is the compact unit

We will have some reviews online hopefully in the next few weeks

In my case the GME TX3340 was the only one around with the controls on the handset. I don't think the Uniden was available at this stage, or if it was - I never saw it.

I have since bought a ICOM IC440 for my father which has the controls and speaker in the handset - would recommend this one but I checked out www.uhfcb.com.au it appears that this unit is no good for the 80 channels.

I've got the GME version, purely because it came with the car when I purchased it second hand.

I've been using it extensively and I can say it's brilliant. The sound from the speak is loud and clear and I haven't had to turn it up full blast yet to hear a conversation. The interface works really well and the buttons are sturdy and look to be very durable.

Can't comment on the uniden version, but have always had GME's. If there's $100 difference though and the quality and function is basically the same, save the $100 and put it towards other mods

The Icom 440 is an equivelent and in my books faultless. The guy at Electronic bug said they get their fair share of handpieces returned under warrenty and for fixing for both the Uniden and GME, but not had one for the Icom.
