  • A question for 150 owners with TJM Bars.

I am closer to ordering a TJM T13 bar as I like how it sits closer to the car than the ARB bars. My question is how well do they fit ? I have heard that by removing the front bumper you loose the strength and mounting points from the bumper to grill and the grill becomes flimsy and loose? Can someone with a TJM bar confirm the fit and quality of the bars ??
    Thanks Daz

I have a T3 TJM bar. The grill does not become "flimsy" but it appears to be a little loser than it was before. The infill panels are not the best and they did tell me that they would be replacing mine when the new design came through but I have not heard anything from them yet and that was months ago. I am happy with the bar though!!!!

I am very happy with the fit and quality of the TJM T13 colour coded bar. My park/indicator lights had a poorly made/designed cover which let water into the fitting. Was told it was a bad batch from the supplier. Apologies all round and new ones installed with no arguments. I replaced their fogs with my OE lights as I think they are marginally better. PM me if you want to see the bar on a VX

Kakadaz, I was going to ask the same question. After looking around the 4wd show in Sydney on the weekend and looking at the few 150's that were on display, all had ARB bars fitted. At this stage the TJM bar is my preference.

Speaking to the TJM guys, I preferred the way their bar was fitted as it didn't involve cutting the bumper and fitted much closer to the front of the car, something that will come in handy in the garage. Unfortunately, I could not find any 150 with a TJM bar anywhere, even after a long walk around the car park, to look. I have been looking at every 150 build up for photos of the TJM bar fitted and found a few but would rely like to hear the owners opinions on the fit.

Did anyone fit the bar themselves ? Still contemplating fitting it myself but time and dollars will decide that one.
          Thanks
          Dave

            Guys,
I had a TJM T13 fitted to my GXL 150 6 months ago (January 2011).
The intial fitting involved the complete removal of the front bumper and the use of 'in-fill' panels. I had several issues with this instalation being that the bar rumbed and pushed on the 'in-fill' panel especally on the passagers side and actual poped the panel out. Also, the grill did not have any mounting (attachment) points left along the bottom due to the removal of the original bumper. Whilst the grill did seem to be quite well attached there was definately some additional movement present along the bottom.

Due to the poor fitting 'in-fill' panels, the dealer offered to refit the orginal front bumper with it cut-out to fit the bull bar.
This has been an ideal solution as the grill is now firmly atached to the original structure that ran along the b ottom of it and we ensured that there was sufficent space between the bar and the cut out bumper that hey do not rub, eben on very rough corregated roads.

Have know travel 30,000 km included 6,000 km out around Birdsvile etc on some very rough roads with not pronblems.

Thus, I would actually suggest the cutting of the original front bumper as the preferred option.

            Regards

Hi Dave... I also have the TJM bar as a preference I like everything about the ARB Bar except for how far the bloody thing sticks out. The T13 looks likes its been purpose built to suit the 150 nice and snug..I will try find one on a 150 and see how it looks.

That could be an option as I don't mind having my bumper cut and at least the colour match will be spot on..

Silly question, but have you asked TJM, or a stockist for a photo? (not quite the same I know...)

                      KAKADAZ,

I have had the TJM T13 bar on my GXL for about 3 weeks and must say that I much prefer it over the ARB bar due to the fact that the ARB bar looks like a 120 bar that has been made fit the 150. It does stick out too far and the side loops don't go up high enough. I have the infills and am happy with the way they turned out, I much prefer them to the bumper cut. I guess it comes down to personal preference and asking the installer to make sure it's fitted correctly. I have had no issues with my grill. The infills are solid as I spent the day with the bar hitting them as when it was originally installed it was too high and had to be dropped down to allow the space. I had mine installed by a mate who owns a panel shop after the wife ruined the original bumper. I had no option but to do the infills but that would have been the way I would have gone anyway. He said that it is a big job to install yourself and you would need about 3 blokes to make things easier with the fitting.

Thanks Paul so I guess if I go the T13 just make sure I demand a proper install.

Darren I fully agree with Paul (Brains), my bar has been on and off my car that many times not it is not funny and with each version of the infill panels they just get better and better. Just make sure the clips are all in place and locked in and it will hardly move. I prefer the look of the panels over the bumper cut, just make sue they get the gap right or the bar will hit them, just the same as it would if it was a bumper cut. You can also get your headlight washers to work for about $20.00 and a couple of jets from Autobarn or Ebay.

I have a black TJM 13 series bar, on a white Prado, with black inserts. The inserts sit just under 1cm above the bar. There were no marks on the bar until I drove to Lake Eyre last month. The inserts have rubbed off a bit of paint on the bar, and this only happened when I fanged it from Leigh Creek to the lake and back.

Make sure you have a bigger gap than 1 cm between the insert and the bar. A bit of touch up paint onto the bar, and who really notices it's there. The bottom of the grill is a bit looser, however, there are no rub marks to be seen on the grill, as the air pressure will be pushing the grill back to where it should be.

                            Yowie.

Thanks for the feedback Daniel it seems it is imperative to get the gaps all right..I do want to reconnect some sort of headlight washer system so may pick your brains more on that one.
