Yes sender and receiver need AA/AAA batteries, but they last about a year. I just remove them when I am not using them. Receiver sits in the centre console or that cut out by the gear shit lever, or the glove box, or the tent. Shows min and max temps achieved during the day too. Ignore the specs. No way it weighs 1kg. Its about the size of an iPhone if a bit thicker. Sender is about the size of a pack of cigs. I've velcroed it to the side of the fridge.

Thanks how does the sender sit inside the fridge?
Do I have to run that wire to the inside of my arb fridge and if so does that compromise the seal.
I am pretty sure with the ridge on the arb lid it would break the seal and potentially break the cable over time?
    Cheers

Good point. I don't know about the ARB design. But yes you have to run the wire inside the fridge. Sender sits on the outside, and probe is on end of a wire that sits inside the fridge. The evakool just has a flat lip with foam seal. I just lay the wire on and it moulds round it. Doesn't seem to affect it.

I've got one of the yellow evakools which is pretty basic and the wire has never worried. It is really just an esky with a compressor attached.

This is one good point for Waco. There wireless remote will self align with your Fridge. The only problem that I could see,but have not had any problems with yet .Is that it may pick up some one else's fridge temp.

It is true for the Waeco, the remote is not unique to fridge. My remote keep switching between my 2 CFX fridgres

Do you think a standard wireless temapture reader would work, it has no cable ,refer linkhttp://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wireless-Indoor-Outdoor-Sensor-Thermometer-/191558272357?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item2c99c 34565

Companion also make a wireless unit that has no cable

I believe the Companion model would be better. The one noted in the eBay link does not seem to be "waterproof" / able to handle the inside of a fridge.

End up buying a wireless LCD thermometer from Jaycar Digitech XC 0321, for $20.
The sensor is weather proof and reads to -40c
The AAA batteries are suppose to last 2 years, time will tell.

I've mounted the seńsor with double sided tape to the underside of the fridge lid, it's only 20mm thick.
The display fits neatly on the sloping section of dash adjacent the radio (150 GX)
Given the display is quite small there is many mounting options
The LCD display is large and easy to read

No problem getting a signal from inside the fridge
For $20 only has to save you once to pay for itself

Just bought an ARB 60 litre fridge and fits perfectly in back of my Altitude. 800mm deep is a good fit. Low profile is excellent. After reading this thread, checked with ARB blog and they have only just released a purpose built remote temp monitor for their fridges. Looks pretty impressive. No pricing as yet but I will be getting one. Can do 2 fridges, tells you what voltage is going to fridge & when compressor is on/off.

Okay I bought the Ironman one yesterday which I thought should be ok as it just looks like a generic Fridge thermometer thingo..........Well the first one failed out of the box..........I fiddled with the battery and replaced them tried them every which way but got no signal at all.......Hmm Ironman who would guess?.....Took it back they swapped it over and said gee that never happened before...Hmmm

Anyway got the new at home now testing it and so far so good.......For $30 I suppose I shouldn't expect too much.
