ROOFRACKS - What are 150 owners using???

OK another stupid question. Has anyone tried to fit a Pioneer 42102 or equivalent platform direct to the NS roof rails using the SXBS legs? I know that tray isn't recommended for the 150 but it is a good size at 1800 x 1280. Or the Thule 757s or 775s feet for that matter. I cannot see the point in having cross rails that attach to the NS rails and then put the rack on top. I know that they are different sections and wont just bolt straight up but still it looks an easy mod to fit some of the smaller channel inside the larger channel of the rack. I don't have the car yet so it is a bit hard to measure everything up but a quick look this morning while I checked out my T3 bar makes me think it is only a matter of running a short length of the smaller channel inside the Pioneer support platform and bolting or rivetting that and then fitting the feet. The NS rails are narrower than the width of the rack so it all should settle down inside. The Thule feet look almost the right size so I will check them out too. Any comments or am I missing something really basic? If nothing else it will lower the whole shebang 50mm or so. And I am aware of the ratings of the rails, I only want about 50kg capacity so that system is close enough.

Hey Spblake, how about a picky? Thinking of one of these ontop of mine. Where did you get it from? What sort dollars? More importantly where abouts do you live? I'm struggling to get this past the finace commity at the moment so if I can get it cheaper as a DIY might just help me get it over the line.

Does anyone have any info? The ARB web page is no use. Are we sure this is a 150 and not a 200? The spacing on the supports looks even.
I am happy to customise to suit. I suspect my poor long suffering Jaram rack will finally get a holiday. Other than that I am thinking of the whispbars with a custom connection to a Pioneer or Alloy tray (or equivalent).
This system would be ideal for me, remove the plastic covers, drop the rack in place and bolt into the clips.
EDIT: Answered my own question by going to the ARB website. Definately 200 series for the 2200 long alloy and steel rack. I have asked ARB for the fitting instructions to see if it fits as I think it does. Next step a bit of a measure....
Gday mate, You can get a 150 tradesman kit. I bought only the rail kit to mount my own custom alloy racks onto with a set of U bolts using the same holes.
The ARB tradie racks are only made in steel and were about 45kg's.... plus i needed rollers at the back for my kayak and work ladders etc... Seems to work good for me.
If I was to get it made again though id still do the same thing except make a few minor mods.

Yes, absolutely. It gives the platform strength, and also can you imagine the rattles and vibration when driving if you didnt rivet them all!

As soon as I get some friends round I'll get the Foxwing on. (Need some man strength to hold it in place to secure it)
Quick question, does anyone actually bother drilling all the holes for the cross-bars and pop-rivetting them in place? I can't see the point. I didn't realise until I'd already pulled the factory rails off there was going to be pop-rivetting involved. Thoughts?

Guest repliedYes you need to drill and rivet every single hole as this is where the rack gets its strength in the criss cross shear pattern of the planks and cross beams.

Guest repliedAre the Whispbars slightly curve? I wouldn't use it if they were.

The Platform definetly comes away from the bars, the two narrower cross bars are definetly pop riveted in and a pain in the arse to shift! So by undoing the four Allen key bolts into the bars ( attached to your factory rails) and removing the black plastic clips between the planks the platform will come off, leaving you with two cross bars.

I can't see why the Whispbars and the Pioneer platform can't go together, just need appropriate fasteners.

Bendman, he did offer me the brackets from the platform to the foxwing, close but not quite. Here is a shot looking down on the platform from the back. If your whispbars are no longer than 1150 mm long you may be able to get away with it. When I got mine the platform and cross bars that attach to the rails were seperate. The instructions give you measurements of where to mount them to the factory rails, once the sxb legs and cross bars are fitted the platform sits over the top. It then bolts down into the cross rails, there are also plastic clips which look into the cross rails between each plank of the platform. You can see this in the photo.
Cheers
Josh

Bendman, the black looks great, will look even better on the Graphite. I wish it was available when I bought mine, I presume it's anodised and hopefully won't scratch. Hopefully they've sorted out their rear cross brace. When my platform arrived the brace was in the wrong spot and interfered with the position of the roof bar. After talking to Rhino, they had just discovered the problem as well, so I drilled out the pop rivets and moved it to the correct spot. They were really apologetic and compensated me for the mix up. I did offer to accept a Foxwing to offset the fix, they weren't quite that keen unfortunately!

Hi guys.
Just a quick question. Can you take the roof rails off a GXL and fit 3 heavy rhino racks? I know they are listed for the GX but unsure whether the mounting poinys are different on the GXL.
Cheers
Steve
