Did you buy the aero bars or have them already. What I am wondering is the Rhino website sells the feet for mounting. Does that mean you don't have to buy the full roof rack set? That would be handy as I could then keep the Whispbars.
I am going to try to get to Autobarn after work to have a closer look either way.
Thanks again Josh.
Sorry I hadn't got back to you Bendman, I bought the platform as a kit with the bars and roof rail clamps, was an awesome deal t the 4x4show. I've been very happy with it, minimal noise and a low profile. How are you going with the decision making?
I requested a quote from TJM for a Tracklander rack. They replied stating the rack at its highest point sits at 210 mm from the roof. This is going to make it close but possible for me so looking into it further.
Can anyone with a Tracklander verify this?
2.08m at the highest point, but my suspension has sagged a little and i have a bar on the front.
I use the Thule WingBar or factory rails. They suit what I use them for and can carry up to 100kg - I belive this actually exceeds the weight limits of the factory rails.
That looks good actually. Thanks for that and it is likely to be the way I'll go.
Simon
The Beauty about it Simon is you can bolt on and off accessories as you need, such as sides full rail, front, shovel holder, fuel cans or a fox wing. I can currently fit into most car parks, except if I have stuff on top!
I've got a 150 with OME and 265/70/17's and have Rhino aero bars on. I put a roof basket on for the long trips , the Prado without the basket on measures 2050mm and fits in the standard garage fine.
We just came back from our outback desert trip and the bolt on tradesman rack onto the Rhino H/D Roofbars worked a treat. Had a MSA RoofBag fully loaded and could not hear any noises at all, even though the sound proofing in the Prados are pretty good anyhow..... Avg fuel consumption for the 5800kms was 12.8ltrs/100kms
Yeah mate she's noisy unloaded @ 100km/h and above, definately noisy with a coupla swags and gear but serves it's purpose well. also as was expected little bit more fuelly per 100... just working on getting some photo's.
With my tracklander it makes a slight wind noise at about 80k's, after that you can't really notice it. With the rooftop tent on it doesn't seem to make any noise at all.
Just picked up an alloy tracklander 1.8 rack, bolts straight to the roof, looks flash will fit the swags but jebus it's a bit noisy!

Mesh baskets will make noise due to the number of east-west wires to make the mesh. the north-south planks on the Pioneer, alloy tray or the superseded platform rack will be less noisy. And they don't rust. but there won't be that many tie down points which is what causes the powder coating to chip off and rust to start.
I have the Rhino sports bars that I leave on and then mount shovel holders as required for day trips and any long trips use a Rola roof basket. This has done two Simpson Desert crossings and two outback NSW/Flinders Ranges trips around 20'000ks and just needed a couple of the bars spot welded, no dramas.
This photo (Pradopoint 2011GTG) shows the shovel, Oz Tent, roofbag and Foxwing all mounted, this is the setup for the long trips we do.
See ya on the tracks, Richo.
Just out of interest, as I am looking to get either the rhino mesh basket or platform, was it the basket that needed welding and if so, what brought that about? I am replacing one that I bought from super cheap, prorack I think, that started rusting at the welds within a few days. Also, does the rhino mesh basket make much wind noise? The Prorack one does from 70km/h up. Cheers!
