Toyota Genuine TowBar - Stabiliser Bolt

Hi All,

I have lost the little bolt that inserts into the underside of the receiver underneath the tow bar to stabilise it.

Anyone got any idea what size this bolt is so that I can pay a visit to Mr Bunnings?

It look alike a nice to have, rather than a need to have.... Thoughts?

Bolt is a M10 x 1.5 x 30mm. Buy a nut as well so that you can lock the bolt in place.

Is it just to stabilise? I can understand if I put something small like a bike rack on there, but with a trailer (ball weight ~130kg) is it really necessary?

My bolt snapped off about 5 years ago, havent had a problem since

I would imagine that it is to stop any movement, ie; rattle.

Also if anyone is going to flog the gooseneck & tow ball, they will need a spanner.

I remember reading that this bolt must be removed when towing. It is indeed to stop rattling

From the Toyota Towing Guide

Anti-Rattle Bolt

Toyota recommends the removal of the tow bar tongue when not in use.
The anti-rattle bolt and nut is designed to prevent movement of the tow bar
tongue when the tongue is unloaded.
The anti-rattle bolt must be removed when towing or damage to the tow bar
may occur.

Thanks for the info. I guess it helps to read the manual :-)

I always thought it was weird that the anti rattle bolt sat underneath placing upward pressure rather than top down pressure.

Wow I never knew this.. I thought it was specifically used when towing to stop the clunking noise.

Ditto ss same here, been towing my trailer on and off for the last couple of months with it tight. Not much weight in the trailer and there is virtually no play when you tighten it so I reckon all should be ok.
